The Director of Enterprise Applications is responsible for planning and managing the IT operations, administration and compliance systems across City Year. With a team of business system managers, this leader will oversee the various platforms that serve a wide range (e.g. Finance, HR, Legal, and development/fundraising) of business functions at City Year in support of our headquarters and our 29 sites across the US. Job Description City Year is looking for an experienced, collaborative, and dynamic Director of Enterprise Applications to lead the ongoing development and support of our SaaS enterprise solutions using Salesforce, Workday, integrations across our enterprise systems, and data reporting with analytics. We are seeking someone with a passion for process, partnership, and enabling success. The Director of Enterprise Applications is responsible for planning and managing the IT operations, administration and compliance systems across City Year. With a team of business system managers, this leader will oversee the various platforms that serve a wide range (e.g. Finance, HR, Legal, and development/fundraising) of business functions at City Year in support of our headquarters and our 29 sites across the US. The Director of Enterprise Applications will establish an overall operations platform strategy and application roadmaps, aligned to City Year’s strategic business needs, and will deliver on that strategy in partnership with the organization's senior leadership team. You will also be responsible for: Providing leadership, vision, and direction to the Enterprise Applications organization to foster a business-oriented culture to ensure alignment and contribution to the organization and functional goals and objectives. Engaging stakeholders and building relationships to inspire the organization around common goals, vision and values for IT. Serving as champion for technology governance, high quality service delivery, and effective vendor relationships across the organization. Responsibility Details I. Lead a High Functioning Technical Team Everyone deserves a GREAT manager - Be one! Develop your staff. Grow and nurture the business systems managers on your team. Define career paths and pave the way for success through constant and ongoing mentoring and coaching. Ensure proper staffing for the team and create an exciting atmosphere to better attract, recruit, and retain IT talent. Foster a collaborative, high-performing environment by setting high standards for technical quality, peer review, and documentation. Guide the team in implementing Agile to improve our ability to respond to change and deliver value. Support practices to prioritize and catalogue various application projects and operational workload. Develop a team that embodies City Year values, engages with the rest of ITS as peers and partners, and encourages effective application usage across the organization. II. Be a Trusted Advisor Enhance relationships with existing stakeholders across City Year by discussing their current usage of our enterprise systems, understanding their needs, and recommending future enhancements and improvements that empower our community to be more efficient while ensuring policy compliance and security of our processes. Lead governance councils to align systems with organizational need and to develop roadmaps for all applications. Act as a thought-leader using your business acumen to create strategies to improve processes and simplify work according to organizational needs. Create enterprise data resources to facilitate robust, role-based analytics and visualizations to support various administrative functions in partnership with Director of Data Management. Assess available technology solutions as well as ensuring that existing solutions are designed for optimal efficiency and usefulness, leveraging City Year enterprise technology platforms (primarily Salesforce, Workday) wherever possible. III. Cultivate our Organizational Success using Enterprise Applications Serve as an expert in platform capabilities, configurations, and lifecycle to ensure robust, available, reliable platforms to support all of City Year’s work. Partner with technology vendors to develop comprehensive solutions, seek opportunities for deeper vendor engagement, and negotiate for more savings. Set best practices and procedures for platform architecture, requirements, design and implementation, and maintenance Oversee operations of our enterprise applications to ensure that our processes and systems run smoothly and on schedule. Continuously look for opportunities for automation and improvement to simplify support work. Apply architectural and engineering concepts to deliver systems that meet operational requirements, such as scalability, maintainability, security, reliability, extensibility, flexibility, availability, and manageability. Identify the technologies to employ based on price, performance, service agreements, and organization constraints to enable City Year to advance on its goal to become a data-driven organization. The Director of Enterprise Applications reports to the Chief Information Officer and is a member of the Information Technology Services senior management team. Working together this team fosters the departments culture and defines the overall IT roadmap. Qualifications Bachelor's Degree or equivalent 5 + years of experience as a developer, IT architect, or IT manager 5 + years’ experience working with application systems, upgrades, data migrations, ideally with SaaS CRM or similar large-scale solutions. Demonstrated knowledge of SaaS solutions and the implications such as to security and integrations. Strong analytical and communication skills, including an ability to build consensus and discuss complex technical issues with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Experience troubleshooting and finding multiple solutions to a complex problem. Experience ensuring compliance with policies, contracts, and laws by formalizing security and data confidentiality procedures within application processes. Ability to listen deeply and communicate effectively both written and verbally to various audiences as various levels in the organization. Demonstrated skills in vendor management and capacity planning. Ability to work in a rapidly changing environment. Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously. Comfortable working in a highly diverse, mission-oriented community Willingness to participate in various volunteer activities in support of our mission, such as mentoring an AmeriCorps member, attending a service event, providing supplies for school teams.
