Chavez Parkside is a public policy, college preparatory charter high school in Ward 7. An anchor in the Parkside/Kenilworth community, our school has 500 students in grades 8-12. Chavez Parkside students achieved over 5 million dollars in scholarship and a 100% college acceptance rate. Parkside has a first-rate athletics program with champion basketball, volleyball, track and cheer-leading teams. And we have over 50 community partners hosting students in the fellowship program. POSITION SUMMARY
The Coaching and Curriculum Specialist leads and facilitates change in the instructional practices of Chavez teachers that will result in improved outcomes for all scholars, increased growth and retention of teachers, and the development of a professional learning community across the school. 

We seek a coach with deep English Language Arts (ELA) content knowledge and teaching experiences; humanities expertise is also highly valued. An ideal candidate will have experience successfully mentoring, growing, and coaching teachers at the secondary level.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Instructional Leadership

  • Plan and lead school-wide professional development and content team meetings to ensure effective data analysis, monitoring scholar growth, and content knowledge development  
  • Create coaching plans, and professional learning opportunities aligned to school, teacher, and scholar needs  
  • Ensure the learning needs of all scholars are met through direct work with students, including small group intervention and one-on-one student support
  • Coach a portfolio of teachers to improve instructional practices through observation, debriefing, lesson rehearsal, co-planning, co-teaching, and modeling effective instructional practices for teachers  
  • Ensure effective and aligned implementation of curricula and research, and monitor to ensure that high quality products are put in front of scholars
  • Lead teachers in diagnosing specific learning needs and in developing a targeted plan of action to address identified areas of improvement  
  • Support leadership team in hiring effective teachers  
  • Participate and/or lead instructional rounds focused on driving scholar achievement
  • Engage in self-reflection and continuous improvement by implementing feedback from school leadership and participation in network-wide professional development 

Curriculum and Data 

  • Select, develop, revise, and monitor implementation of rigorous curriculum aligned to Common Core State Standards (CCSS)
  • Develop and/or modify an integrated set of formative and summative assessments that are aligned to the CCSS
  • Develop a system for capturing, dis-aggregating, and sharing scholar data for individual teachers and comparatively across schools
  • Provide reports to school leaders and teachers on scholar achievement
  • Review data as a means of informing planning and help teachers and instructional coaches make informed decisions to drive scholar achievement.
  • Manage online programs related to curriculum, assessment, and data 

Progress Monitoring

  • Maintain up-to-date and accurate records of teacher progress connected to coaching goals 
  • Ensure teachers monitor scholar progress, making instructional decisions based on scholar achievement 
  • Convene regularly with leadership to share teacher and scholar progress

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Bachelor’s Degree  
  • Minimum of 5 years in teaching ELA or Humanities
  • Demonstrated success as a classroom teacher  
  • Demonstrated success using data to drive programming  
  • Experience coaching adults to meet student academic goals  
  • Belief that all scholars can achieve at the highest levels with no excuses  
  • Ability to effectively analyze school data to improve scholar and staff achievement  
  • Ability to exercise excellent judgment in decision-making  
  • Is a strategic thinker and proactive problem-solver  
  • Exemplifies the highest ethical standards  
  • Works independently with little direct supervision and as part of a team
