Cesar Chavez PCS is a public policy, college preparatory charter high school in Ward 7. An anchor in the Parkside/Kenilworth community, our school has 500 students in grades 8-12. Chavez Parkside students achieved over 5 million dollars in scholarship and a 100% college acceptance rate. Parkside has a first-rate athletics program with champion basketball, volleyball, track and cheer-leading teams. And we have over 50 community partners hosting students in the fellowship program. POSITION SUMMARY  
The Math Interventionist provides explicit mathematics instruction in a one-to-one or small group setting to improve individual students’ math skills. The Math Interventionist designs and creates intervention plans aligned with regular classroom mathematics objectives and tailored to each student or small group. The Math Interventionist monitors student progress and adjusts instruction as needed to increase student mathematics achievement. 
 
This is a part-time position (15 - 25 hours per week). The Math Interventionist is expected to be onsite a minimum of three days a week dependent on a mutually agreed upon schedule.
 
The Math Interventionist will primarily work with students in 8th through 10th grades. Ideal candidates will have a strong understanding of Algebra I and Geometry.
 
The Math Interventionist at Cesar Chavez PCS is responsible for the following:

  • Collaborating with colleagues in developing cohesive Common Core-aligned curriculum materials and increasing instructional resources
  • Utilizing strong math content knowledge to effectively present enticing and rigorous Common Core-aligned lessons 
  • Differentiating instruction to accommodate multiple learning styles and abilities
  • Assessing students’ academic and developmental growth through observation and a variety of assessment methods
  • Tracking and monitoring assessment results in order to regularly refine teaching practices and design differentiated lesson plans
  • Applying the values of urgency, rigor, and consistency to create a positive learning environment that promotes high expectations
  • Communicating with students, parents, and school staff to ensure that students are on-track in their learning and making progress towards goals
  • Establish and implement effective classroom management procedures, and maintain a productive, safe, and focused learning environment
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS REQUIRED 
Ideal candidates will have the following education and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Concentration or advanced degree in math preferred.
  • Meet the appropriate grade level and subject area requirements to be deemed a Highly Qualified Teacher (HQT) under the No Child Left Behind Act
  • Two or more years of teaching experience as a secondary math teacher in an urban environment with a strong record of student achievement preferred 
  • Substantive experience with data and intervention programming preferred 
  • Believes that all scholars can achieve at the highest levels with no excuses 
  • Ability to work productively with diverse populations, teachers, parents, board members, and community members, including demonstrated expertise in building and maintaining effective working relationships; 
  • Citizenship, residency of work VISA in United States required 

ADA SPECIFICATIONS: This position will be based at the Chavez Parkside campus.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to move about the building.  In addition, travel to other sites could be required, frequency to depend on the needs of the school and position.  The employee is regularly required to speak audibly, see, listen actively, and use hands to handle objects while performing the duties of this job.  This position requires the ability to use standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and filing cabinets.
