The Graphic Designer plays a key role in helping the City Year brand and design move forward as our organization grows its reach and brand awareness. They help shape the visual identity of City Year through creative design work. They might help with projects like website design, social media design, events, fundraising and marketing materials, logo development and management, and environmental design for our headquarters across the country.
We’re looking for a talented graphic designer to join our small, but mighty creative team for a fast-growing, passionate, fun, and youthful nonprofit brand. As the Graphic Designer, you will work on a wide variety of awesomeness in print, digital, social, and environmental design. You could be creating invitations and centerpieces for a fundraising gala, a social media campaign, an infographic on our impact in schools, a webpage refresh, a set of promo materials for our online store, or even interior designs for the walls and windows of a new office. You will work with all the members of the creative team as we are all about sharing and helping each other with constructive feedback and help in brainstorming ideas. Your work here will spread across the City Year network – in offices, in the schools we serve in, and in communities where we recruit. Your creativity will support our goal of helping students stay in school and on track to graduate from high school better prepared for self-fulfillment and success in life.
Respond to Creative Requests
As a team, we review new project requests from City Year’s Headquarters and sites two times a week, and you will elect or be tasked with ownership of the creative for various projects. Projects can include social media, web page design, e-marketing design, events, environmental design, press clips, infographics, one pagers, brochures, flyers, awards, etc.
Work collaboratively with our team, the national staff, site staff across the country, and vendors
Participate in collaborative brainstorms, concept development, and design mock-ups. Present visual ideas, design rationale, and detail to the team and partners. Interpret needs, objectives, and direction from multiple sources to ensure design concepts meet business goals.
Create templates/trainings/presentations and help set and enforce branding standards
Develop themed event templates, design and software trainings, PowerPoint and PDF presentations, and implement brand manual updates
We are launching a new website in January and are very active on social media and e-mail marketing, so there will be lots of opportunity to do digital design!
For your design projects, you will typically be responsible for quoting print jobs and managing all aspects of production including designing print-ready files, signing off on proofs, approving pricing and quality assurance.
Maintain file organization and proper file labeling
As a small team, each of us is responsible for adhering to our system for file organization and metadata labeling.
