Job Description Summary
Providing psychological services, including psychological evaluations, test interpretation, and consultation including completing psychoeducational assessments on students for possible placement in the exceptional children's program. Conducting parent conferences with parents or guardians of students to review assessment findings, recommend appropriate educational placement, inform them of their rights as parents, and to answer any questions a parent may have. Participating in Individual Education Plan meetings with other school personnel to discuss finings and to decide on the appropriate educational placement for a student. Conducting classroom observations on one or more students noting significant and/or relevant behavior patterns that would aid in the educational programming for a student. Completing functional behavior assessments to assist in planning and implementing behavior management programs for students using methods suitable to a particular student's needs. Individual as well as group counseling for any student in need of guidance in dealing with academic, social and/or emotional difficulties. Consulting with teachers and other school personnel to assist them in providing strategies to improve challenging student behaviors in the school setting. Consultation with other public and private agencies outside the school system (i.e. mental health agencies) for students who may need more extensive treatment than that which can be offered within the school setting. Teacher consultation, parent consultation. Staff development on crisis intervention and response. Crisis response implementation. Providing in-service training for teachers, school counselors, and school administrators. Keeping abreast of current research and best practices as they relate to psychological services for students.
