Job Summary

Provides a career and technical education instructional program in Hospitality, Travel and Tourism that prepares students to work for entry-level positions common to the hospitality, travel and tourism industry. Instructs students in areas related to culinary arts, food services operations, hospitality and travel services. Provides instruction in various hospitality, travel and tourism disciplines across various industries pertinent to the economic vitality and entrepreneurship. The curriculum provides rigorous and relevant instruction aligned to industry and state standards in order for all students to graduate with 21 st Century college and career ready skills.

Essential Functions

  • Assesses the instructional requirements of students and provides orientation and instruction within hospitality, travel and tourism to high school students in the applied visual arts and career and technical education related competencies.
  • Ensures that industry standards are incorporated into the educational program; prepares students to explore merging trends and the impact of technology within hospitality, travel and tourism.
  • Provides instruction that offers a balance of theory and practice, as well as training in such areas as food management, culinary arts, event management to lodging and travel/tourism.
  • Provides training in the proper use of software, tools and equipment related to the commercial hospitality, travel and tourism industry; provides instruction related to specialized hospitality travel and tourism operations, applications essential to commercial and industrial needs and innovative business operations.
  • Monitors student progress and assesses their skills according to standardized measurements.
  • Participates in the development of internships in the hospitality, travel and tourism program; ensures that students have a variety of school and work-based experiences; oversees students in a variety of job/school sites.
  • Collaborates with industry professionals to ensure classroom instruction remains current and reflects industry standards.
  • Stays abreast of technological advances in the area of specialization.
  • Prepares students for employment as entrepreneurs or post-secondary education by coordinating activities related to developing a portfolio.
  • Partners with industry professionals in the hospitality, travel and tourism industry to assist in the development of learning and training activities.
  • Assists administrators with the development and maintenance of the school-based Occupational Advisory Board.
  • Attends regularly scheduled teachers' meetings, professional development and other program related activities and events.
Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Two years of full-time, paid experience in Hospitality, Lodging, Travel or Tourism.
  • Possession of an instructional certificate for marketing.

OR

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Four years of full-time, paid experience in Hospitality, Lodging, Travel or Tourism.

OR

  • Education equivalent to the completion of the twelfth school grade.
  • Six years of full-time, paid experience in Hospitality, Lodging, Travel or Tourism.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated knowledge of:
• the commercial hospitality, travel and tourism industry.

• the modern methods, theories and practices in the area of commercial hospitality, travel and tourism industry.

• the equipment, software, materials and techniques used in the area of hospitality, travel and tourism.

• the proper use and maintenance of equipment and materials used in hospitality, travel and tourism industry.

  • Ability to :
• implement assessment tools for effective student evaluations.

• communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

• establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Certificates//Licenses

  • Valid Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Vocational/Intern Certificate in Tourism and Travel Services Marketing operations or immediate eligibility for an Emergency Teaching Permit
