TITLE:

Cafeteria Monitor (0.38 FTE)

2020/2021 School Year

12.5 hours per week

POSITION SUMMARY :

To provide efficient and effective leadership in supervising students behavior during lunch hours. Ensure general cleanliness of the cafeteria once students have left. It is crucial for cafeteria monitors to ensure a positive and safe environment for the students.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) and at least one-year related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience. Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent strongly preferred.

Must be able to communicate fluently both verbally and in writing in English. Bilingual (Portuguese or Spanish) candidates are preferred.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

Previous experience as a Cafeteria Monitor in a school setting is preferred.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Supervises students at lunchtime and maintains a positive and safe atmosphere.
  • Circulates throughout the cafeteria during mealtime. Helps students by opening packages and milk cartons.
  • Cleans up spills and provides additional assistance as needed.
  • Assists students through the cafeteria line in an orderly fashion.
  • Ensures students are orderly and acting appropriately.
  • Assists staff in lunchroom clean-up.
  • Interacts with students to maintain order and provide assistance when needed.
  • Adheres to the routines outlined in the school's Positive Behavioral Intervention and Support (PBIS) plan as it pertains to the cafeteria.
  • Directs movement of students to and from cafeteria and classrooms in a safe and organized manner.
  • Reports disciplinary and other concerns to the building administrator and/or classroom teacher.
  • Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate
    safety concerns.
  • Reports safety, sanitary and fire hazards immediately to supervisor.
  • Professionally represents the school and the District in interactions with parents, community, staff and students.
  • Attends work regularly and is punctual.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk; stand; sit; use hands for fine manipulation, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The employee may occasionally climb stairs or ladders. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, ability to adjust focus and peripheral vision.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Per the School Committee Policy. This is a non-benefit eligible position.

Up to 12.5 hours per week. Specific hours are to be determined.
