JOB DESCRIPTION

Title: Fresh Start Teacher, Elementary

Department: Site

Immediate Supervisor: Site Principal

Job Goal:

To create an elementary behavior program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth with an emphasis on improving student behavior; to establish effective rapport with pupils; to motivate pupils to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for elementary grade education, in accordance with each pupil's ability; to establish good relationships with parents and with other staff members.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

Teaches district approved curriculum and complies with district and school requirements of curriculum documentation.

Instructs pupils in methods of self-regulation, social norms and basic subject matter as specified in state law, administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.

Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction as necessary to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.

Provides an atmosphere that is both educational and therapeutic in nature.

Translates lesson plans into developmentally appropriate learning experiences.

Will meet with parents and regular teacher during the intake process.

Will track progress towards transition back to regular classroom, communicate this progress regularly to all parties and keep this as a continuous goal for all students.

Communicates regularly with parents and regular classroom teacher by means of newsletters, notes, phone calls, conferences, etc.

Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere.

Evaluates pupils' academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports.

Identifies pupil needs and makes appropriate referrals and develops strategies for individual education plans.

Is available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day.

Plans and coordinates the work of parapros, program counselor, parents, and volunteers in the classroom.

Creates an environment for learning and student growth.

Participates in appropriate professional development activities.

Other duties as may be assigned.

Length of Contract : 181 contract days.

Salary commensurate with experience on the negotiated agreement of the Edmond Association of Classroom Teachers (EACT).

Evaluation : Performance of this job will be evaluated by the site principal in accordance with the provisions of the Board's policies, state law, and the negotiated agreement with the Edmond Association of Classroom Teachers (EACT).

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITES:

None.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS :

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor of Arts degree in elementary education and/or early childhood.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Valid Oklahoma teaching certificate with elementary and/or early childhood endorsements.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups, staff, parents, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to plan budgets and use the mathematical skills required to do so. Maintain accurate records and support documentation for projects under the supervision of the position.

REASONING SKILLS:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Ability to use computer and computer related programs and other technologies needed to perform essential job functions. Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community. Ability to organize and chair or facilitate committees and meetings. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
