POSITION: SPED Speech Pathologist Licensed Assistant

REPORTS TO: Executive Director of Special Education

DEPT./SCHOOL: Special Education/Campus as assigned

WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Exempt

PAY GRADE: Teacher Pay Scale

NO. OF DAYS: 187

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
  • Bachelor's degree from accredited college or university with 24 hours in speech pathology/audiology
  • Valid Texas Assistant's license in Speech-Language Pathology
EXPERIENCE:
  • 25 hours of clinical observation
  • 25 hours of clinical assisting experience

Position Function/Purpose

Provide appropriate instruction for students with communication disorders under the supervision of a Speech Pathologist. Aid them in fulfilling their potential for intellectual and social growth.

Major Responsibilities

Instructional Management - At the direction of the supervising Speech-Language Pathologist

(SLP), and with appropriate training, the assistant shall:
Conduct or participate in speech, language, and/or hearing screening with the appropriate training. Implement the treatment program or the Individual Education Plan designed by the licensed Speech-language pathologist.Provide carry-over activities that are the therapeutically designed transfer of a newly acquired communication ability to other contexts and situations.Collect data.Administer routine tests, if assistant has been appropriately trained and the assessments are conducted under the direction of the supervisor.Maintain clinical records.Prepare clinical materials.Participate with the licensed SLP in research projects, staff development, public relations programs, or similar
Student Growth and Development
Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required. Present for students a positive role model that supports the mission of the school district.

Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of students.Establish control in the classroom and administer discipline in accordance with board policies and administrative regulations.Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students.Promote a positive work environment and positive staff morale within the school.

Participate with other staff in building a common vision for school improvement.Participate in planning and implementing activities to ensure attainment of school's mission.
Administration and Fiscal/Facilities Management
Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect equipment, materials, and facilities.
School/Community Relations
Maintain a professional relationship with all colleagues, students, parents, and community members. Use acceptable communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
Professional Growth and Development
Demonstrate interest and attend professional development by attending inservice meetings, workshops and conferences.Observe professional and ethical standards in accordance with generally accepted community standards and the Texas Education Agency code of ethics.Perform such other duties as may be assigned or as may be necessary for job effectiveness.
Policy Implementation
Keep informed of and complies with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers. Assume responsibility for compiling, maintaining, and filing all reports, records, and other documents required.Attend and participate in staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
Qualification Requirements

Minimum Education/Certification:
  • Bachelor's degree from accredited college or university with 24 hours in speech pathology/audiology
  • Valid Texas Assistant's license in Speech-Language Pathology
Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • Knowledge of speech therapy
  • General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to work well with a diverse population
Minimum Experience:
  • 25 hours of clinical observation
  • 25 hours of clinical assisting experience
Terms of Contract: According to district approved calendar

Working Conditions:

Emotional - Maintain emotional control under stress

Physical - Moderate carrying and lifting. Standing, sitting, walking, use of fingers, eyes and ears

Environment - Inside normal office environment
