Position for 2020-21 school year
We are looking for a teacher with an Educational Specialist
credential with EL and Autism authorizations.
Our RSP teachers have an average caseload of just 18 students. Most of our RSP services are provided as push-in with close collaboration with a general education partner. There is release time for staff collaboration twice per week.
We expect the Educational Specialist (RSP) to share responsibility for lesson planning, modifying assessments and co-teaching with their assigned teaching partners. Our RSP teachers also write the IEPs for students that are assigned as their case load. We have a talented Assistant Principal Special Education who provides support and guidance for the Special Education staff and facilitates collaboration with the General Education staff. Our California Dashboard shows a rating of yellow for both ELA and MATH for SBAC scores.
James Jordan Middle School is a well-established public charter school on the west side of the San Fernando Valley. Our school has 415 students, primarily from low-income homes, and we have a very high percentage of special education students. We are located in a pleasant residential neighborhood, and we boast outstanding opportunities for teachers to influence the direction and details of all of our programs. Our campus-wide character development program means that teachers have a lot of support in shaping student behavior. Students who struggle academically are in classes with a lower class size and a paraprofessional is always with this group to make sure the students have extra support and help. This is a team environment.
The administration and teachers work as enthusiastic partners to make decisions regarding bell schedules, curriculum, intervention strategies and reward systems. We have a happy, upbeat staff that is consistently supportive and devoted to collaboration. Our teachers work together to determine pacing plans and to choose curriculum materials. Our professional development program gets rave reviews from our faculty. Job security at our school is based on merit and not just seniority.
Our staff has received pay raises every year for the past 5 years. All staff will be eligible to earn up to $7,000 in performance pay stipends on top of their base salary during the school year. All of our faculty members are offered opportunities to attend external classes, conferences and workshops at our expense. We invest in our teachers and provide support for all teachers to learn and grow as they help students increase their achievement.
