The Building Construction Teacher provides direct instruction and supervision of adult students in the area of Building Construction. The candidate will teach a set curriculum which needs to meet a rigorous set of core program competencies that will prepare adult students with the skills and knowledge to enter the workforce.


Facilitates students' learning of Building Construction.

Communicates the essential questions to clarify the learning goals for each lesson.

Assesses student progress towards objectives, expectations, and/or goals for the purpose of providing feedback to students.

Informs and directs students on essential workforce soft skills and job coaching.

Demonstrates the ability to individually assess and monitor the students' skills.

Provides students with regular opportunities to move with purpose and experience diverse instructional strategies so that they are physically and intellectually engaged as learners.

Uses technologies appropriately in the teaching/learning process.

Manages and maintains equipment and materials.

Maintains an up-to-date inventory of equipment and materials.

Observes health and safety regulations.

Meets schedules and deadlines.

Other duties as assigned.


Must have strong verbal communication skills.

Must have knowledge of the concepts and terminology used in building construction systems Must have knowledge of construction procedures and techniques: installation procedures for flooring framing systems, components of a wall and ceiling layout for wall and roof section construction, installation of doors and windows, elements of roof construction; relevant energy conservation practices, and practices finish carpentry.

Must have the ability to develop in students, job-related skills including time management, ability to work both independently as well as part of a team; punctuality, work ethic, and leadership. Must stay up to date on local building codes as well as homeowners' association policies and procedures where applicable.
