OPPORTUNITY
The Special Education Program Specialist is responsible for assisting and enhancing the work of Teachers, Special Education Aides, School Psychologists, and School Leaders, Parents, and Classified Personnel in the area of special education practices and promoting the conceptual, intuitive, and personal skills necessary for their professional development. The goal of this position is to provide direct support for schools in the maintenance of a compliant and collaborative special education program with the support and supervision of the special education program administrator. This is a year-round position, requiring work both during and after school hours.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Instructional Support
Coach Special Education teachers and general education teachers in the area of curriculum and instruction, co-teaching practices and classroom management strategies across multiple campuses.
Promote standards-based instruction by providing demonstration lessons, focused observations, and professional development on research-based instructional strategies and classroom practices.
Utilize the coaching model to provide opportunities for teacher reflection on standards-based demonstration lessons and classroom observations.
Train teachers to manage, interpret, and use assessment data and facilitate the analysis of data and student work to guide instructional decision-making
Work collaboratively with the school site administration and Lead SPED Teacher to plan and facilitate special education professional development.

Compliance
Develop and manage comprehensive IEPs and implement systems of accountability to have a compliant special education program in multiple sites.
Support enrollment of students receiving special education services to ensure correct placement and establish services in all data systems to ensure implementation of IEP.
Serve as the administrator designee for IEP meetings.
Coordinate and monitor all service providers in Welligent or SEIS and other systems to ensure accurate delivery of services.
Develop, monitor SPED aide schedules to ensure the maximization of resources.

Program Support
Provide individual coaching before/during/after IEP meetings.
Train teachers in all special education guidelines and provide technical support to assure that they comply with special education regulations and Green Dot policies.
Provide updates on Special Education procedures to maintain compliance.
Collaborate in the development of programs and services to ensure implementation of all special education programs and be responsive to parent and program needs.
Provide ongoing training for special education teachers, sped aides, office staff and campus security officers to ensure implementation of IEP and behavior supports.
Collaborate with program administrator to develop master schedule that adheres to student IEP placements and collaborate with counselors to monitor individual student scheduling.
Other duties as assigned

Supervision
Supervise, support and evaluate special education aides in the implementation of best practices

QUALIFICATIONS
Valid Clear/Level II Education Specialist Credential
Valid CA Administrative Services credential highly desirable.
A minimum of 4 years teaching experience in special education with a history of improving student achievement. Teaching experience in multiple Special Education Setting highly desirable (e.g., SDP, RSP)
Relevant Masters or equivalent degree preferred
You possess strong Knowledge of the Disabilities Education Improvement Act, California Standards Base instruction, Response to Intervention Framework, Behavior Modification Strategies, and Education Code
You have a passion for improving urban middle and high schools, and driving education reform
You have experience working in an urban school setting
You have demonstrated leadership capabilities.
You have proven management and team building skills
You possess excellent interpersonal communication and writing skills
You possess excellent collaborative and organizational skills
A strong ethical base and self-awareness
You are dependable, humble, have a sense of humor and a rock-solid commitment to Green Dot’s mission and the communities we serve
You will need to pass a TB test and background check at time of offer

COMPENSATION
The annual salary this position starts at $75,000, commensurate with education and experience.
