Must possess or be able to obtain a Commercial Driver's License, Class B with Passenger Endorsement (P), School Bus Endorsement (S), and no Air Brake Restriction. Will be subject to Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check, Federal Background Check, and Child Maltreatment Registry Check. Language:
Must have adequate expressive and receptive English language skills, to be able to communicate with and be understood by students, coworkers and parents, receive their responses and respond to them appropriately.
Must be able to read and recognize appropriate traffic and warning signs and instructions. Health:
Must be able to pass all required physical examinations required for the position of Bus Driver. Sensory:
Must have the ability to safely observe traffic by looking forward, using mirrors, and turning head sharply to both the left and the rights.
Must be able to visually or otherwise access written and printed content, and respond verbally and in writing.
Must have the ability to understand and respond to the verbal expressions of others, often in a noisy environment with multiple speakers and background noise, or outside. Movement:
Must ba able to access the inside of a bus and operate all the equipment in the bus, such as communication equipment, handicapped lifts, emergency doors, and outside hatches.
Must be able to move around outside on hard surfaces as well as outside and uneven surfaces to perform pre- and post-trip visual inspections.
Must be able to travel at a brisk, walking pace relatively long distances to reach bus in order to drive it or retrieve it after it has been parked.
Must be able to bend and squat and reach to pick up things that may be under bus seating.
Must be able to transfer students weighing between 60 and 260 pounds and their assistive transportative devices such as wheelchairs and walkers.
Must be able to work outdoors, for sustained time periods, sometimes during very hot or very cold weather conditions as well as in a non-air-conditioned bus environment.
Must be able to perform an emergency evacuation procedure which may include lifting, scooting, or sliding children to an emergency exit. Attendance:
Must have the ability to work for the duration of the daily assigned time period, and to be physically present and at assigned work, with only infrequent unexcused absences, during the school year. Cognitive:
Must be able to conform behavior to that which is socially accepted as being appropriate to an adult and positive role model who is working with young and impressionable students. Must be able to exercise good judgment with respect to traffic and other environmental conditions and situations to ensure student safety.
