SUMMARY: Assist students with special educational needs by delivering academic instruction, assist the teacher with preparation of classroom materials, adapt curriculum to individual student learning level in a Title I designated school. Monitors behavior of students and assists in implementation of BIP.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. 1. Assist special education students by delivering academic instruction within special education and general education settings. Assists teacher in adapting the curriculum to students? individual learning level. Adapts work and monitors and enforces social and acceptable behavior. May assist with administering assessments or testing. Assists instructors with related paperwork.
2. Assists instructors with preparation of classroom materials.
3. May use alternative language such as sign language or voice activated computer systems. May occasionally assist in personal care of student to include toileting, catherization, diapering, lifting or pushing student in wheelchairs. Monitors student health.
4. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE:
? High school diploma or equivalent.
? Must be a minimum of 18 years old.
? Must meet one of the following requirements, which are:
o AA or 2 year college degree, OR
o Completion of 48 college semesters hours, OR
o Passing of state CDE approved paraprofessional examination, OR
o Complete Personal Commitment Plan to meet requirements within a defined timeline
? Willingness to work with students receiving special education services (training opportunities provided).
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS or CERTIFICATIONS:
? Criminal background check required for hire.
? CPR and First Aid certifications preferred.
? Universal Precautions training required within 3 months after entering position.
? Crisis Prevention Intervention Training required within six months after entering position.
Salary placement on our Classified Salary schedule is dependent on the Grade for the position being posted and employees' previous work experience. "Grade" refers to position or job classification and "Step" refers to number of work experience credit or service years. Initial placement will be at the Grade for the position step 1.
Employees regularly scheduled to work twenty (20) hours per week or more are eligible to receive the district contribution towards insurance benefits as defined in the Classified Master Agreement Article 11.3, 11.4, and 11.5 and are eligible for benefits described within this article. Employees regularly scheduled to work less than twenty (20) hours per week, or employees
whose employment is temporary, are not eligible for benefits described within this article. Please refer to the Classified Master Agreement for more information.
