PO S ITIO N S UMMAR Y:

The Social Emotional Support Specialist wil l serve as a coach for district Pr i ority and/or Focus Schools identified under the Oh i o Department of Education guidelines . This position will serve the following high schools: West, Columbus North International, Marion-Franklin.

E SS ENTIAL DUTIE S:

The Social Emotional Support Specialist will provide coach i ng a n d social emotional learning (SEL) support on how to embed SEL into daily instruction to three SQIG grant funded schools for target area "Positive Climate and Culture" . The duties will inc lude but are not l i mited to the fol l owing areas :

• Provide training and coaching to individua l teachers, PBIS building teams Teacher Based Teams (TBTs), and Bui l d i ng Leadership Teams ( B LTs) relative to Restorative Practices, Trauma Informed Care or other Social Emotional Learning frameworks as well as Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS) implementation
• Support t eachers , PEAK IA's, inst r uctional coaches and TBTs in the implementa t ion of Social Emotional Learning frameworks and PBIS relative to the Ohio Improvement Process (OIP)
• Coac h building instructional coaches to effectively support classro om teachers in the i mplementat ion of Social Emotional Learning frameworks and PBIS, including PEAK IA's at the elementary level.
• Deliver professional development to teachers in a var i ety of areas including but not l imited to: Restorative Practices, Trauma Informed Care, other Social Emotional Learning frameworks, and PBIS
• Collaborate w i th t eachers , teams, adm i n i strators , ex t ernal partners , district departments, and community partners
• Support staff utilization of data to drive decision making processes related to PBIS implementation and improved school wide climate and culture.
• Demonstrate the ability to com mun icate effective l y
• Demonstrate knowledge of the necessary work of priority and focus schools
• Assess specific build i ng needs and support schools in the development of an action plan using data
• Work wi t h schoo l s to use da t a to inform and guide behavioral practices in order to i ncrease student ach i evement
• Engage with staff to des i gn job-embedded professional development aligned to school improvemen t plans
• Prov i de support to schools in i ntegrat i ng district i nitia t ives in to the schoo l im provement process
• Support the imp l ementation of innovat i ve practices and programs in schools
• Other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QU A LI FI C ATI O N S :
• Mu st possess valid Ohio Teaching l icensure appropriate for level (ES, MS, HS) or school counselor or school social worker license through ODE
• Minimum of five years classroom teaching experience i n an urban set t ing or school counseling / school social worker experience
• Know l edge of effective behavioral practices for elementary, middle, and high school stude nts
• Thorough understand i ng of t he Social Emotional Learning frameworks, PBIS and the Ohio Improvemen t Process
• Ability to work with diverse cultural backgrounds
• Effective written and verbal communication ski l ls
• Available for extended hours inc l uding mornings , evenings , Saturdays and summer
• Flexib l e , resourcefu l , enthus ias t ic, and high energy level
