Job Description

MISSION: The Texas Education Agency (TEA) will improve outcomes for all public-school students in the state by providing leadership, guidance, and support to school systems.

Please note that this role is a limited term position and is set to expire two years from the selected candidate’s start date.

POSITION OVERVIEW: The Analyst for Educator Preparation Improvement will accelerate the work of the Department of Educator Leadership and Quality related to using data to inform how the state recruits, supports, and retains effective educators. The work will occur primarily in three strands: 1. The development of data analyses and models to identify measures of educator preparation programs (EPPs) related to the production of impactful educators; 2. The development of models that relate Texas workforce and K12 data to illuminate teacher career paths before, during, and after working in public education; and 3. Supporting EPPs in their use of data, including data visualization customization, providing direct support, and studying the impact of EPP data support.

This position works under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment and will report to the Analyst for Program Accountability & Improvement.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Design, test, implement, and document a model relating EPP data points to the production of impactful educators.
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to identify, obtain, and utilize workforce and K12 data to model teacher career paths.
  • Collaborate with EPPs in designing data visualizations and in building capacity to use data products.
  • Design and implement metrics to measure the impact of initiatives to provide EPPs with data, analyses, and visualizations.
  • Collaborate with Educator Data team members to review and provide critical feedback about data and visualization products.

 

Qualifications

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university.

Experience: At least (4) years of experience in data analysis, research, compilation, and/or reporting work.

Substitutions: An advanced degree may substitute for two years of required experience.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of statistical procedures used in the analysis of data sets
  • Experience with compiling and reviewing educational data sets
  • Skill in structuring and writing reports
  • Understanding of educational systems and relevant state and federal K-12 education policy and research base
  • Skill in analyzing problems and devising effective solutions,
  • Experience with record keeping, including security procedures for handling, protecting and distribution confidential data
  • Skill in SAS, SQL, and other applicable programming and statistical languages and packages
  • Experience in developing engaging visualizations of data using PowerBI or similar software
  • Skill in writing technical documentation to support implementation and continuous improvement
  • Ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail
  • Effective oral communication skills
  • A desire to self-reflect, give/receive feedback and continuously improve
