Job Description

Reporting to the Senior Director, Network for School Improvement (NSI), the Data & Operations Coordinator will support City Year’s and its partner Johns Hopkins University’s effort to establish and facilitate a network of schools that will utilize continuous improvement practices to improve the on-track rates for eighth grade students.

With the Senior Director, the Coordinator will work with 5-10 schools during the 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 school years, supporting the facilitation of the network’s data cycle process, including collecting and leveraging data at each school site in the Network. The Coordinator will also support the Senior Director and schools in the analysis of data and identification and implementation of practices to address data, including adjusting or shifting practices based on new data and progress monitoring of on track rates.

The Coordinator will support the logistical and operational needs of the network, supporting the Senior Director in organizing key conversations and planning meetings for the network as well as leading on the logistics and operations for several network convenings each year.

The Coordinator will also support the Senior Director and City Year leadership in capturing lessons learned from the implementation of the initial network launch to expand the network over time and to inform City Year’s and Johns Hopkins University’s shared goal to create networks for improvement in sites across the country.

Job Description

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Support the operational and logistical needs of launching an initial Network for School Improvement (NSI), comprising of 5 and growing to 10 schools, including the coordination of deep partnerships with the schools, district, and City Year site where the network is located. You will support the Senior Director with aspects of project management for the Network, including, progress monitoring and updating project management tools used for the network, supporting the creation and distribution of regular communications to network stakeholders, scheduling and organizing meetings and conference calls for the effective design and implementation of the Network , supporting the scheduling and organization of network “Learning Loops.” Lastly, you’ll support the logistical and operational needs that facilitate engagements with members of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and other Networks for School Improvement nationwide to share experiences and learn promising practices.

Foster the development of strong relationships in the network with, among, and between school teams and City Year. You will support the Senior Director with identifying and/or developing resources to support knowledge management, system development, shared accountability, and continuous improvement among multiple schools and establishing processes to deliver these resources to schools in an impactful and efficient manner. You’ll also lead on the logistics and operations supports for several convenings of schools in the network to share and exchange knowledge, data, and practices. You will also support the development of and use of internal knowledge management systems of schools, sites, City Year, and Johns Hopkins University.

Support the data work of the Network and individual schools through their short-cycle continuous improvement processes. You will support the progress monitoring and reporting of results against a City Year and Johns Hopkins University constructed results framework for the network’s success, as well as supporting the Senior Director in adjusting practices and efforts as needed to meet the outcomes established in the framework. You’ll also support school leaders and their teams within the network improve their school’s eighth grade on-track rate by facilitating the collection, maintenance, progress monitoring, and reporting of data based on the shared aim of the network.

Specifically, you have:

  • Experience in education, working in a school, preferred
  • Experience, knowledge, and skill with data collection and maintenance, including progress monitoring and reporting at multiple levels (individual, subgroup, whole-school) requiring high accuracy
  • Experience, knowledge, and skill in managing logistical and operational elements of a program, especially new efforts where there is a need to create new systems and practices requiring high levels of detail
  • Experience bringing together diverse groups of individuals for a common purpose with positive results
  • Experience with or capacity to learn continuous improvement methods with positive results
  • Strong strategic thinking, communication, project management and creative problem-solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and experience working with external partners
  • Flexibility and desire to take initiative in an innovative and fast-paced environment
  • Desire work collaboratively and in a team environment
