Assistant Director of Special Education USD 480 QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Valid license for building/district leadership.
Previous teaching and administrative experience Masters degree in Special Education Demonstrate ability to work as a member of a team, excellent written and
oral communication skills. REPORTS TO:
Director of Special Education SUPERVISES:
Special Education programs and itinerant personnel. JOB GOAL:
To provide quality education programs for children (Pre-K-12) that
qualify for special education services. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists in the adaptation of school policies to include special education needs.
Provides leadership in establishing and evaluating existing programs within special education.
Implements State of Kansas Child Find activities leading to early identification of exceptional children. Provides guidance for referral, evaluation and placement of students in special education service programs. Supervises and coordinates home instruction for homebound, hospitalized, suspended or expelled students with a disability as required by law.
State Assessment testing - Assists buildings as well as individual teachers with Alternate Assessment. Reviews all testing sites (KITE and DLM) to assure students are tested per state and federal regulations.
Assists with development and maintenance of complete confidential individual records for all children referred and or receiving special education services.
Communicates as needed with all stakeholders.
Assists with a permanent inventory of equipment purchased for special education. Assumes responsibility for own professional growth and development.
Coordinates with community agencies serving our local pre-schools and Birth to 2 program as well as private schools both locally and where our children may be serviced including both state schools for the blind and deaf.
Coordinates with the Director of Elementary Education to work at the Early Learning Center (preK)
. Responsible for all state and federal reports are completed including but not limited to:
-Transition from C to B and OWS (Indicator 12 CBER) reporting
-Keep track of the SPP for all PreK indicators 6, 7 & 12
-4 year old at risk funds
-Prek Migrant funds
-Memorandum of Understanding between USD #480 and Russell Child Development Center
-Early Learning Webinar Participation
Assists Medicaid clerk with Claiming Medicaid Programs for the district.
Works cooperatively with Director of Elementary and Secondary programs to monitors and maintain paraeducator in-service hours as required annually. Organizes and Implements Extended School Year (ESY) for Students with Disabilities as required on the IEP. Fully Certified Instructor for Nonviolent Crisis Intervention through the CPI company. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ENVIRONMENT CONDITIONS:
Requirements may include prolonged sitting or standing, physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull or push heavy objects or materials, climbing stairs, stooping, bending and reaching; also includes travel. EVALUATION:
Director will be evaluated by the Director of Special Education in accordance with the Board of Education's policy.
