Job Description

MISSION: The Texas Education Agency (TEA) will improve outcomes for all public-school students in the state by providing leadership, guidance, and support to school systems.

POSITION OVERVIEW: The Texas Education Agency (TEA) is hiring for a Revenue Accountant (Accountant IV). The Accounting Division of the Texas Education Agency (TEA) administers a system of internal controls to ensure all purchase orders, contracts, allocations to subgrantees, payments to vendors and school districts, agency employees' salaries, benefits, tax deductions, and travel are processed in accordance with the General Appropriations Act and State and federal laws or regulations.

The cash management section in the Accounting Division is responsible for maintaining control over cash and appropriation balances through monthly reconciliations and internal reports.  The cash management team is searching for a distinguished individual that has a strong work ethic, the ability to balance many tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment, and the desire to gain more experience with accounting principles, practices, and procedures.  The cash management section reports to the Assistant Accounting Director. The Revenue Accountant (Accountant IV) position will fulfill daily, monthly, and quarterly cash management responsibilities including but not limited to federal draw downs, Foundation School Program cash requests, and review of appropriation balances.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Perform daily federal revenue draws in various federal payment systems
  • Prepare and process certification refunds and assessment revenue weekly
  • Perform daily and monthly cash management activities
  • Review appropriation cash balances and prepare/enter cash transfers as needed
  • Prepare cash management reports: CMIA, Closed Charter School Report 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
 
Education: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university. A degree in accounting, business, finance, or a related field is highly preferred.

Experience: At least three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in accounting and financial operations.  Experience with CAPPS-Cash Receipt Module, various federal payment systems, USAS, and CAPPS journal entry is preferred.  

Substitutions: An advanced degree may substitute for two years of required experience.

  • Intermediate or advanced Excel knowledge is required
  • Fast learner who thrives in a high-performing environment
  • Ability to engage in a collaborative, results-oriented team environment
  • Highly organized; ability to manage multiple projects at once and meet deadlines
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Knowledge of budgetary control and state reporting requirements preferred, but not required  
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Access and Microsoft Word is preferred, but not required
  • A desire to self-reflect, give/receive feedback and continuously improve
