TITLE: HVAC Mechanic 3

HOURS: 40 per week (7:30 AM - 4:00 PM)

SALARY: $20.94 unlicensed / $22.53 licensed

BENEFITS: Full benefits including pro-rated paid holidays, sick leave, annual leave, retirement and health insurance. Local supplement of 5.5% starts the month after completion of first year. State longevity after 10 years of service.


1. High School diploma.

2. Refrigeration License Preferred.

3. Strong HVAC maintenance experience.

4. A license offers added responsibilities and remuneration.

5. Able to undertake new responsibilities and is reliable.

6. Such alternatives or additional qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.


JOB GOAL: HVAC position who posses a solid understanding of HVAC equipment operation and contributes as a member of an HVAC team maintaining mechanical equipment in school buildings.



1. Strong competence and understanding of mechanical equipment and its operation.

2. Operates computerized programs required for efficient equipment operation.

3. Demonstrates willingness to continually learn about new HVAC equipment, its operation and computer controls.

4. Operates alone in addressing work orders, assessing issues and correcting problems.

5. Requires minimal supervision.

6. Is a self-starter who can perform alone and be relied upon to handle repair calls, check status of equipment, investigative equipment operation, and identify problems.

7. Performs major repairs.

8. A contributing member of the HVAC team who maintain heating and cooling equipment throughout the school district.

9. Exhibits professionalism with all customers using discresion in discussing any problems and/or issues regarding operation of equipment.

10. Assimilates information and makes good judgment decisions regarding the operation of mechanical equipment.


11. Holds a valid State of NC HVAC license of H1, H2 or H3 level.

12. Oversees work performed by other HVAC technicians.

13. Available for after hours on call service.

14. Performs other such appropriate duties as may be assigned.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Twelve-month year. Salary in accordance with the adopted schedule. (Grade 700 or 720 depending on licensure)

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
