Summary:

Looking for a Music Educator to organize lessons and activities in any aspect of music for grades K-5 in the context of a three-week summer program for elementary students in Newton Public Schools. The position will pay 5 hours per day at the teacher summer rate.

*** Please kindly note: due to the uncertainty caused by COVID-19, we are asking all summer staff to be flexible to in-person, virtual or hybrid to teaching and learning to accommodate all students, and to commit to the full duration of the summer program of which they have been assigned.***

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree, Master's degree preferred
  • Ability to handle multitude of varying and complex issues
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to use technology effectively

Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience and training in any or all music methodologies desirable: Orff, Kodaly, Gordon, others
  • Proficient musicianship on multiple instruments
  • Broad knowledge of musical styles, composers, music history
  • Experience teaching music to elementary aged children, specifically English Language Learners
  • Willingness to promote multiculturalism through music in and among the school community

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities (Not Limited To):

  • Follows health and safety protocols related to COVID-19
  • Create engaging lessons and activities for general music instruction in grades K-5
  • Willing to adapt lessons as need for a variety of English levels, ability levels, and learning styles
  • Work in collaboration with other teachers in the program
  • Create a responsive, fun, and safe environment for all campers
  • Consistent, reliable and punctual attendance is essential for supervision and instruction of the students
  • Responsible for implementing "other job-related duties" as needed

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

Work Environment:
  • Work is generally performed in a school/classroom environment
  • Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function. Rarely absent or late unless the situation is of an emergency in nature.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to walk, talk, hear, sit, and stand regularly and for extended periods of time
  • Ability to bend, stoop, crouch and kneel
  • Ability to lift and/or move objects weighing up to 15 pounds
  • Sufficient mobility to navigate within a large school building
