Starting wage: $45,372 - $48,449 annualized (63-D)




Purpose Statement

The Program Specialist - Marketing and Technical Support promotes the Child Nutrition department to the school communities and providing technical assistance and support related to the Child Nutrition department school menu board system, computer equipment and department software, including the department website. This position will involve working with school personnel to ensure objectives are achieved within budget guidelines and according to district and department objectives, responds to queries, problems, determines and offers possible solutions, and trains on program functions.

This position also serves as the primary backup to the Program Specialist - Free and Reduced Benefits and Program

Specialist - Finance.

This position reports to the Director of Child Nutrition.

Minimum Qualifications
  1. High school or equivalent
  2. Ability to pass a fingerprint and criminal background check
  3. Job-related experience or technical training, including working with web based software, with an emphasis in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, or Business. Relevant education may be substituted for work experience
  4. Valid Driver's License and evidence of insurability
  5. Intermediate level Microsoft Office Suite skills
  6. Strong knowledge of Adobe and managing websites via forms
  7. Working knowledge of web based platforms
  8. Speak, read, write, and present professionally, analyze, and interpret English written and verbal communications
  9. Ability to operate standard office equipment, Point of Sale, basic computer hardware terminology, and basic software troubleshooting and networking techniques
  10. Ability to obtain Food Handler's Permit within two (2) weeks of hire
  11. Ability to learn and maintain departmental website


Preferred Qualifications
  1. Spanish or other language proficiency, including ability to read, write, speak, and understand
  2. Job-related experience maintaining websites
  3. Experience using PowerSchool
  4. Experience using Horizons OneSource
  5. Knowledge of Microsoft PowerPoint, Office 365, Forms, etc.
  6. Perform standard bookkeeping and basic math including calculations using fractions, percentages, and/or ratios, and ability to maintain accurate records and payments for department's finances


Essential Functions
  1. Assist in school kitchens when needed (e.g. cleaning, serving meals, running Point of Sale, etc.) to ensure an effective and efficient work environment
  2. Attend meetings and trainings as required at a minimum of 6 hours annually (e.g. Healthy Edge, Safety and Sanitation, etc.) in order to obtain and provide information and address issues
  3. Communicate effectively with diverse individuals and groups of people while maintaining confidentiality and building positive working relationships with employees and stakeholders.
  4. Compile data from a variety of sources (e.g. internal and external databases, program bulletins, etc.) to comply with financial, legal and administrative requirements
  5. Compose, process and maintain a variety of confidential and non-confidential electronic documents, files and records (e.g. policies, procedures, reports, bulletins, requisitions, etc.) in order to provide up-to-date reference and audit trail for compliance
  6. Evaluate situations (e.g. involving other staff, students, parents, the public, etc.) to take appropriate action and direct to appropriate personnel for resolution
  7. Follow-up with customers (e.g. staff, vendors, school personnel, etc.) to ensure technology problems have been resolved
  8. Guide technology users through problem-solving processes in order to diagnose technology-related problems and provide technical assistance and support to assist users of department computer systems, software and new technology
  9. Maintain department webpage to provide up-to-date, useful and accurate information for visitors to the site
  10. Maintain, support and monitor school menu board program to ensure that equipment and software is operational and that all School Menu board segments are accurate, timely and updated (e.g. video, pictures, and data)
  11. Participate in meetings, workshops, seminars, as assigned for the purpose of conveying and/or or gathering information required to perform functions.
  12. Perform record keeping (confidential and non-confidential) and general and program-specific clerical functions (e.g. scheduling, copying, faxing, etc.) to support assigned administrator and sites with necessary materials
  13. Present department information (e.g. marketing materials, nutritional information, related activities, etc.) to students, parents and the school community in order to maintain positive departmental relations and provide accurate information on department activities, data and events
  14. Provide training and support to school personnel (e.g. principals, school secretaries, etc.) in the use and maintenance of school menu boards to provide information in an effort to coordinate district efforts in the area of resource development
  15. Receive feedback from customers about computer usage to provide feedback about system usage to system administrators
  16. Reconcile a variety of transactions to balance accounts and adhere to established accounting practices
  17. Respond to inquiries from a variety of internal and external parties (e.g. staff, parents, students, the public, etc.) in order to provide information, facilitate communication among parties, and provide direction
  18. Support a team environment by collaborating with own and other work units to effectively perform the duties of the position.
  19. Work under limited supervision, utilizing time-management and prioritization strategies, accurately processing detailed information and meeting deadlines.
  20. Adapt to changing work priorities and work with frequent interruptions, as required.
  21. Speak, read, write, analyze, understand, and follow written and verbal communication in English including grammar and punctuation; listen to, and understand information and ideas presented verbally or in writing.
  22. Maintain regular and predictable attendance to fulfill job requirements efficiently and effectively.
  23. As needed, roll, push, pull, bend, reach, stoop, and lift up to 30 pounds.
  24. Other duties as assigned.


Working Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 80% sitting, 10% walking, and 10% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
