Job Description

The job of the Secondary Teacher is to create a flexible instructional program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; to improve student success in automotive mechanic and auto body skills through implementing District approved curriculum, to establish effective rapport with students assigned to the classroom; to motivate students to develop attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation of secondary grade education, in accordance with each pupil's ability; to supervise students within the classroom and on campus; to provide a safe environment for learning; to establish good relationships with other staff members.

Performance Responsibilities:
  • Center instruction on high expectations for student achievement.
  • Provide clear and intentional focus on subject matter content and curriculum.
  • Recognize individual student learning needs and develop strategies to address those needs.
  • Assumes responsibility for implementing and teaching a specialized program in subject area.
  • Teaches courses in subject area to secondary pupils utilizing course of study adopted by the Board of Directors and appropriate curriculum publications as guidelines in teaching individual course content.
  • Instruct pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
  • Use multiple student data elements to modify instruction and improve student learning.
  • Establish rapport, communicate and collaborate with parents and the school community.
  • Develop lesson plans and appropriate instructional aids stressing "discovery" and laboratory learning methods.
  • Demonstrates subject area concepts using models, visual aids, overhead projector, technological hard and software, and other standard or teacher-prepared instructional aids.
  • Designs learning activities that will relate subject area to the physical world.
  • Establish and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment.
  • Evaluates each pupil's progress in subject area knowledge and skills.
  • Demonstrates scientific concepts by use of scientific apparatus, experiments, and standard or teacher-prepared charts, sketches, and other instructional aids.
  • Exhibit collaborative and collegial practices focused on improving instructional practice and student learning.
  • Foster and manage a safe, positive learning environment.
  • Provides individual or small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of pupils and to accommodate circumstances where a variety of projects and experiments are being worked on simultaneously.
  • Selects and requisitions books, instructional aids, and instructional supplies; maintains required inventory records.
  • Communicates with school counselors to discuss the individual pupil's progress.
  • Identifies pupil needs, and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
  • Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs.
  • Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Complete work at assigned workstation(s).
  • Consistently deals with people in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
  • Assesses student's academic learning and/or skills for the purpose of providing feedback to students, living unit staff, school counselor, and administration regarding students' progress, expectations, goals, etc.
  • Collaborates with school personnel and institutional staff for the purpose of improving the quality of student outcomes, developing solutions, planning curriculum, and promoting positive school relationships.
  • Demonstrates methods required to perform assignments for the purpose of modeling the skills necessary to perform the tasks safely and/or accurately.
  • Directs educational assistants, volunteers and/or student aides for the purpose of providing an effective school program and addressing the needs of individual students.
  • Demonstrate effective teaching practices.
  • Use multiple student data elements to modify instruction and improve student learning.
  • Instructs students for the purpose of improving their success in assigned academic subject areas or skills areas.
  • Manages student behavior for the purpose of providing a safe and an optimal learning environment.
  • Prepares teaching materials and reports for the purpose of implementing lesson plans and providing documentation of teacher and student progress.
