Reports: Mechanic Supervisor, Transportation Supervisor and Director of Transportation

Exempt Status: Non-Exempt

Pay Grade: 6

No of Days: 260

Position Function/Purpose

The responsibility for the determination of vehicle safety. To act as a backup Bus Driver. Must have CDL with "P" and "S" endorsements.

Major Responsibilities
  1. Perform preventive maintenance service and inspections
  2. Repair/replace any damaged, worn or non-functional component on any MISD owned vehicle which makes the vehicle unsafe for use
  3. Follow up on all reported vehicle maintenance concerns determining when the vehicle is safe for normal operation
  4. ASE Endorsements on brakes and other specific endorsements
  5. Able to troubleshoot for electrical problems on vehicles
  6. Able to use updated computer diagnosis machine in tracking problems on vehicles
  7. Able to repair the Vanhool Coach Buses
  8. Knowledge of being able to attain all ASE certification endorsements
  9. Understand and execute DPS monthly vehicle inspection records
  10. Perform all other duties as assigned by Director if Transportation Services


Five years prior experience in mechanics; Diesel mechanic experience

Qualification Requirements
  1. The ability to read and write English
  2. High School Diploma or GED preferred
  3. Have or be eligible for State Bus Driver certification
  4. Specialized mechanical knowledge
