Job Description
KIPP Texas- San Antonio seeks a Regional Superintendent who can guide the organization to thrive by improving results and partnering with organizational leaders to develop and execute its next growth plan. The statewide board, regional board, and dedicated staff have a strong commitment to creating more quality educational options for traditionally underserved communities in KTX San Antonio. Under the leadership of the Regional Superintendent, KIPP Texas-San Antonio will dramatically improve academic performance at all of its schools and collaborate with the KIPP Texas leadership team to support further growth in the region. The Regional Superintendent will be tasked with leading a sustainable organization capable of producing consistent, lasting, and high-quality results for all students. The Regional Superintendent serves in both a leadership and management role and is responsible for managing and leading the members of their Regional Leadership Team in its strategic priorities, decisions, and work. The Regional Superintendent must ensure the Regional Leadership Team's strategic work maximizes its value to the Team and Family and is aligned with the KIPP Texas-San Antonio vision, mission, and core values.

  • You develop and support direct reports and leadership in schools in key areas including instructional coaching and content expertise;
  • You serve as the leader in San Antonio who organizes the people, time, and financial resources of KIPP Texas to best empower the students in KTX San Antonio.
  • You assist in creating and executing KIPP Texas multi-year Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion roadmap that moves us along on the anti-racism framework
The KIPP Texas- San Antonio Regional Superintendent will join the statewide KIPP Texas executive Team at an exciting time as they continue to build the vision for KIPP Texas Public Schools and leverage the strengths of each of its four regions. The Regional Superintendent will directly manage two Deputy Head of Schools, and a Deputy Chief Academic Officer to drive the instructional vision across the region. In addition, the Regional Superintendent will manage a local Advisory Board and participate in local fundraising, advocacy, and community engagement with support from the KIPP Texas Development and Marketing/Communications teams. This is an exciting opportunity to have a tremendous impact on a region that has a strong foundation but needs to unify and work cohesively to drive transformational outcomes for students. With significant support and resources from the KIPP Texas team, the Regional Superintendent will be well-positioned to improve outcomes for students. This is an ideal position for a strong instructional leader who has experience managing principals to achieve impressive academic outcomes for students and is looking to expand their skill set to include external community work, school growth and expansion, and systems-level leadership.
Key Responsibilities
The Regional Superintendent is responsible for the overall school quality, academic performance, strategic growth, and organizational culture of their region. As the region grows in size and complexity, the Regional Superintendent will work closely with instructional and operational leaders to ensure that the overall strategy is ambitious, comprehensive, and actionable, and that it continuously leads to innovation and measurable student achievement. See specific responsibilities below:
Owning and executing on the organization's vision
  • Work with the KIPP Texas Public Schools Executive Team to hone the state-wide strategic vision and the local implementation plan to accomplish it;
  • Set clear multi-year academic, operational, and financial goals and manage to them; adapt as
  • necessary given changes in the internal and external environment;
  • Organize people, time, and resources from across KIPP Texas to best align for the students of the region
Driving instructional quality across all the schools
  • Support the execution of state and regional academic initiatives;
  • Regularly observe in schools with instructional leaders and school leadership to drive instructional coaching;
  • Analyze data and create action plans;
  • Hold leaders and teachers accountable for ensuring all students have access to the resources and education they deserve
Building and managing a high-performing team that is able to support schools in their drive to deliver transformational educational outcomes for students
  • In conjunction with the KIPP Texas Talent Team, set a strong vision for talent development that ensures the region recruits, develops, and retains high-performing teachers, assistant principals, school leaders, heads of schools, and regional support team members;
  • Continue to build and nurture a strong, cohesive culture;
  • Enhance and support the strong and consistent accountability systems to ensure regional progress toward shared goals. Promote transparent decision-making processes and embrace distributive leadership principles;
  • Develop a leadership pipeline through strong coaching and development practices for Heads of Schools, School Leaders, and Assistant School Leaders
Engaging key constituents to build strategic support
  • Serve as the public face of KIPP Texas Public Schools in KTX San Antonio;
  • Continue to develop a strong, engaged, and active advisory board in close partnership with the Board Chair;
  • Build coalitions, relationships, and partnerships with key stakeholders in support of the organization's mission and goals;
  • Demonstrate leadership as a member of KIPP's national network by fully engaging as a member of the KIPP Executive Director community. Ensure key regional constituents are kept fully informed on key developments and national KIPP initiatives

Skills and Qualifications
  • A passion for KIPP Texas beliefs, mission, vision, values, and operating norms and a commitment to living them every day
  • A track record of leadership including at least ten (10) years of professional experience with success managing a complex, high-performing, organization, division or project. Specific experience in a multi-site, high-growth environment is preferred
  • An ability to drive transformational change for students by fostering and leveraging synergy among teams and approaching leadership with openness and humility
  • Demonstrated skills in instructional leadership
  • Experienced in developing and operating multi-million dollar budgets and programs
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to quickly build relationships, directly manage people, manage a budget, and solve issues in a complex and decentralized environment
  • Energetic, self-starter attitude, comfortable working in an environment characterized by its fast pace and entrepreneurial spirit
  • Excellent at crises management
  • Must be flexible and customer-focused
  • Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy required
  • Bilingual (Spanish-English), a plus
Education and Knowledge:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is required
  • A Master's degree, with specialization in Education or Business Administration, is preferred
  • 10+ years of leadership experience working, preferably in education, CMO environment, business, operations, school office management, or related field. If professional experience is not in education, the candidate must have other experiences to make decisions with the best interests of students in mind.
  • Superintendent certification is a plus
