Job Description

The Amherst, Pelham and Amherst-Pelham Regional School District school is currently seeking highly qualified candidates for the position of Bus Driver/Maintainer. This position reports to the Facilities Director. The Bus Driver/Maintainer will work forty hours per week, between the hours of 7:00 am and 3:30 pm with frequent overtime. This is a fully benefitted Grade E position.
The work includes driving gasoline, diesel or electric powered vehicles including but not limited to pick-up trucks, automobiles, vans, and buses up to 80 passengers including driver. The Bus Driver/Maintainer is responsible for the safe operation of the vehicle at all times, safe delivery of all students to their authorized stops and notifying their supervisor of any problems with their vehicle. The Bus Driver/Maintainer also performs other labor and maintenance work as needed when not driving.
Qualifications:
- Must possess a valid State Driver's License and a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a Passenger (P) Endorsement and a School Bus (S) Endorsement and a school bus driver certificate from the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV).
- Knowledge and skills to work with special needs students
- Meets minimum commercial driver's license medical standards
- Must have a good driving record, and a knowledge of roads and towns surrounding Amherst, Massachusetts.
- Must possess skills and knowledge to operate motor vehicles over a variety of roads for extended periods under varying climatic conditions.
- Ability to perform routine maintenance on equipment and knowledge of mechanical and operation indicators that tell when the vehicle is unsafe to drive.
- Must have professional references.
- Acceptable Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI)
- Acceptable National Criminal Back Ground Check, commonly referred to as a finger print check.
- Knowledge of and experience with equipment and materials used in facilities maintenance trades.
- Knowledge and skill sufficient to make a significant contribution to the child transportation team through observation, communications skills, intervention skills, procedural expertise and documentation regarding safe transportation.
- Basic computer skills.
- Effective written and oral communication skills
