In Class Support Teacher (Middle/High School)
Job Type: Full-time (2020-2021)
Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
Assist the classroom teacher in arranging the learning environment.
Assist students in completing classroom assignments, homework and projects. Assure student understanding of classroom rules and procedures and assist students by answering questions, providing proper examples, emotional support, friendly attitude and general guidance.
Assist assigned teacher with the implementation of lesson plans based on NJ Student Learning Standards. Administer various tests as directed. Employ special educational strategies and techniques during instruction to improve the development of sensory- and perceptual-motor skills, language, cognition, and memory. Prepare mandated reports and documentation as required.
Tutor individual or small groups of students, reinforcing instruction as directed by the teacher by either pulling or pushing in. Monitor and oversee student drills, practice and assignments in various subjects. Confer with the teacher concerning lesson plans and materials to meet student needs and assist with the implementation of lesson plans. Modify classwork assignments based on IEP/504 modifications.
Assist the classroom teacher with the supervision of students during non-instructional times, such as emergency drills, assemblies, cafeteria, restrooms, field trips, hallways, playground and bus loading / unloading activities.
Assure the health and safety of students by following established practices and procedures and maintain the learning environment in a safe, orderly and clean manner. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities with responsibility for the neatness of his/her room and the proper care of all furniture and supplies.
Assist students in setting and maintaining standards of classroom behavior. Observe and control behavior of students in the classroom according to approved procedures, monitor students during outdoor activities as directed, become familiar with student IEP goals and report progress regarding student performance and behavior to supervising teacher.
Run an assigned school club and play an active role to increase student participation and interest.
Provides adequate information and materials for substitute teacher.
Attend school-sponsored functions or activities at least three times, during the school year, which may be scheduled before, during or after periods of student attendance;
Attend and participate in faculty meetings as well as other professional meetings called by the administrative staff.
Attend and participate in Back to School Night and Parent Teacher conferences that are held during the school year.
Provide for his/her own professional growth through an ongoing program of study, including workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced coursework at institutions of higher learning.
Communicates responsibly with students, parents, colleagues, and school leadership;
Demonstrate professional responsibility and ethical behavior. Demonstrate effective and appropriate interpersonal relationships with students, educational staff, parents and staff. Work cooperatively with CEO and other staff.
Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law.
Keep confidential all information that Employee obtains in the course of his or her employment that qualifies as confidential under applicable statutes, regulations or Charter School policy;
Follow the communicated policies and procedures of the school rules, administrative regulations, and School Board policies;
Perform other duties as assigned by the Charter School Administration.
Education: Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited university is required.
Certification/Licensure: NJ Standard Certification or CEAS/CE is required. Teacher of students with disabilities certification is a plus.
Experience: Experience is a plus.
Proven communication and instructional strategies;
Classroom management skills;
Excellent communication skills both orally and in writing;
Excellent organizational skills.
