Job Description
DESCRIPTION: The primary duty of the junior varsity coach is to foster a positive culture within the program that puts the student athlete's wellbeing above all else. Position is responsible for coaching student athletes in practice, game strategies and techniques to prepare them for athletic competition. The junior varsity coach motivates student athletes to develop an appreciation of the sport and strives to ensure that each student athlete's social, academic and athletic potential is maximized. This position is contingent on the number of student athletes.

Must possess effective coaching techniques and skills. Must possess a thorough knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies and techniques of the sport. Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, parents and students. Some experience as a softball coach or assistant coach at the high school or college level preferred.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists the junior varsity Girls Softball coach with instructing players in the rules, regulations, equipment and techniques of the sport. Organizes and directs individuals and small group practice activities/exercises as directed by the head girls' softball coach. Assesses player's skills, monitors players during competition and practice, and keeps the head girls softball coach informed of the athletic performance of students. Assists with determining game strategy. Assists the head girls softball coach with supervising athletes during practices and competition. Follows established procedures in the event of an athlete's injury. Models sports-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, officials and spectators. Maintains the equipment room in orderly condition and assumes responsibility for its security. Distributes equipment, supplies and uniforms to students as directed by the junior varsity coach. Participates in special activities to include parents night, banquets, award nights and pep assemblies. Performs support tasks such as distributing and maintaining eligibility forms, emergency data cards and other related records. Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities. Attends staff development meetings, clinics and other professional activities to improve coaching performance. Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Junior varsity Girls Softball Coach, Athletic Director, Building Principal and/or the Superintendent.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, lift, carry, move about, hear and speak. Employee may be required to perform extensive work at a computer display terminal.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, or consistent with the subject being taught, but can be abnormally loud on occasion.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally work in outside weather conditions and be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, temperature fluctuations, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals commonly used in instruction and/or cleaning. It may be expected that the individual could be exposed to blood or other potentially infectious materials during the course of their duties. The employee may be exposed to infectious disease as carried by students.
The employee may be required to travel in school owned or leased vehicles while supervising and assisting students.
