JOB GOAL:To provide students and staff with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean and efficient school environment to enhance learning.
1.Keep school building and premises, including hallways, sidewalks, driveways and play areas neat, clean and litter-free at all times when school is in session.
2.Assist staff in regulating heat and ventilation systems to provide temperatures appropriate to the season and to ensure economical usage of fuel, water and electricity.
3.Shovel, sweep and sand sidewalks and entrances as necessary to permit safe walking for students, staff and visitors.
4.As assigned, sweep, vacuum, dry mop and wet mop floors in classrooms, specialized areas, gymnasium, library, offices and adjacent hallways on a daily basis.
5.Scrub and disinfect toilet areas, floors, walls and surfaces and sanitary sinks and fountains daily.
6.Empty waste receptacles; sort and prepare rubbish for disposal or recycling.
7.Periodically dust and clean furniture, counters, wall surfaces and shelving.
8.As may be needed, move and store food supplies and assist during food preparation, serving, dining hours or cafeteria cleanup.
9.Check regularly to ensure that all exits and emergency doors are unobstructed and working properly during hours of building occupancy.
10.Assume responsibility for building security, limiting access to authorized persons during and after school hours.
11.Set up, move or relocate furniture and equipment as may be required for various activities and as directed by the principal or head custodian.
12.Adjust lighting, set up and take down platforms, lecterns, sound system components, screens or audiovisual equipment as may be needed for special functions by various user groups and town officials, and provide assistance in the safe, correct operation thereof.
13.Perform periodic interior chores such as stripping and buffing floors, painting or minor repairs, and exterior chores such as snowblowing, raking, lawn edging and landscape trimming, window washing, trash pickup and equipment repairs.
14.Perform periodic interior maintenance chores such as cleaning of ventilators, replacing ceiling tiles, glass, or changing bulbs.
15.Maintain an inventory of supplies and equipment as needed to accomplish daily assignment, and requisition replacement supplies well enough in advance so as to not hinder completion of tasks.
16.Promptly report to the head custodian any major repairs that may be needed, and to the principal any acts of vandalism or damage, or inoperable equipment that poses a threat to the safety of students or staff.
17.Direct students and assist staff during emergencies, drills or potentially dangerous situations.
SALARY:Hourly, as established by the School Committee.
EVALUATION:Recommendation for continued employment based on joint evaluation of performance annually by the school principal and head custodian.
