Job Description

The Mental Health Professional will work closely with the building administrative teams and the school counselors to coordinate, facilitate, and implement mental health support services. The Mental Health Professional will also work with the District Guiding Coalition to coordinate consistent support services across the District. The Mental Health Professional will provide emotional support and foster a safe and successful learning environment for students in K-12. The primary focus will be on building students' capacity for academic success and positive social and emotional well-being. The Mental Health Professional will also be required to be a member of the District Trauma Response Team and meet regularly with both building and district level administration including a District lead/coordinator position for mental health support. The Mental Health Professional will be paid on the Certified Salary Schedule.

Job Requirements
  • Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree Preferred in Social Work, Psychology, or Counseling
  • Arkansas Licensure (LCSW, LPC)
  • Ability to bill AR Medicaid
  • Strong facilitation, coaching, conflict resolution and problem solving skills
  • Experience in the use of technology
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Demonstrated skills in written and verbal communication
  • Demonstrated understanding and appreciation of diversity
  • Knowledge of and experience with mediation and conflict resolution
  • Ability to promote and follow school district and department procedures
  • A high level of organizational skills and initiative
  • Strong communication skills
  • Experience and training in mental health support within a learning or school environment

    Other duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Address mental health of students and staff during remote learning
  • Provide individual mental health counseling
  • Coordinate schedules with outside mental health agencies
  • Crisis management
  • Provide direct services to students, in collaboration with building/district staff and families, such as crisis interventions, threat assessments, safety plans, and treatment coordination
  • Provide direct services such as intake assessments, individual therapy, group therapy, and case management
  • Address bullying/harassment
  • Provide education (prevention and awareness via classes/presentation on topics such as anger/stress management, cyber safety, e tc.)
  • Develop youth leadership and empowerment skills
  • Facilitate restorative justice and conflict resolution
  • Provide crisis assistance (i.e. family death)
  • Provide truancy intervention
  • Provide mental health resources
  • Liaison to/for community resources; next steps involving short term and/or long term therapy or intervention; advocacy
  • Address mental health and mental illness
  • Address risky behaviors (i.e. alcohol/drug use)
  • Address depression and anxiety (i.e. suicide ideation)
  • Address abuse (i.e. physical, emotional, sexual)
  • Maintain and track documentation of mental health support for students
  • Address mental health of staff as needed
  • Other duties as determined by the administration
