Job Description

The Role:

The Social Impact Exchange (aka “Exchange”) is at the forefront of tackling critical social issues by fostering a network of multi-sector stakeholders to drive equitable systems change. The organization focuses on enhancing the flow of capital and resources to initiatives dedicated to transformative systemic change. As we expand our impact, we are seeking a dedicated Associate Director to contribute significantly to the development, support, and execution of this critical work. This role involves cultivating essential relationships, overseeing cross-sector collaboratives, and spearheading partnerships within the education and youth thriving domain. Additionally, the role involves shaping collaborative initiatives and learning convenings, managing action teams, and creating impactful work products and communications that foster engagement in systemic approaches with a strong emphasis on racial equity.



Reporting directly to the Vice President, the Associate Director will be instrumental in building a sustainable learning and action ecosystem within the social sector. Key responsibilities include:

  1. Collaboratively stewarding key relationships (funders and key institutions) to align interests and needs with emerging opportunities in education and youth thriving systems funding.

  2. Collaborating to design, project manage, and execute SIE’s co-funding collaboratives and learning convenings, including managing action teams.

  3. Developing compelling action-oriented work products and stakeholder communications to drive engagement in systemic approaches.

This role is inherently cross-functional, requiring seamless integration of SIE’s offerings, management of timelines and deliverables across SIE activities, and contribution to internal strategy and process planning.


Candidate Qualifications:

We seek an ideal candidate with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in philanthropy, education, youth-supporting efforts, or nonprofit development/fundraising. The candidate should demonstrate innovative strategies for systemic social change, particularly those centered on equity and racial justice. Experience in health, economic equity, or other social issue areas is an added plus. Key qualifications include:

  • Team orientation, self-motivation, and a passion for advancing equity and social justice.

  • Strong interest in fostering a culture of continuous learning, especially related to systems change approaches.

  • Understanding of leading issues in the education sector, systems change strategies, and a proven track record of stewarding groups of like-minded partners.

  • Excellent collaboration skills with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and execute key initiatives.

  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills with a keen attention to detail.

  • Strong working knowledge of digital communications technologies and software applications, including online convening platforms (e.g., Zoom).

About the Social Impact Exchange:

The Exchange, launched in 2009 with funding from Robert Wood Johnson, Rockefeller, and Gates Foundations, aims to create a society where all individuals can thrive, focusing on addressing systemic racial inequities. With over 4,000 multi-sector members, the Exchange facilitates learning and funding clusters to shift systems and achieve large-scale equitable impact. It serves as a focal point for building the field of equitable systems change and facilitates efficient capital flow to system change efforts.


Compensation, Benefits & Work Location:

  • Work Location: New York City Area.

  • Compensation: $100,000 – $120,000.

  • Benefits: Generous health benefits, work-life balance, hybrid work from home policy, five sick days, at least 15 personal time off (PTO) days, and holidays.
