Our goal at Cottage is to provide learning experiences that promote the total development of each child's intellectual, emotional, social and physical growth. We need to focus on each child, recognizing individual qualities and needs and making accommodations based on different styles and abilities. Each teacher must be sure that the needs of all children are accommodated within the regular classroom, through differentiated activities, and by using support staff. We must continue to set high academic and social expectations for all children.
The learning environment in each classroom must promote positive attitudes and acceptance while clearly communicating our high expectations. As we work to develop and strengthen each child's independence, self-discipline and social skills, emphasis must be given to guiding children in making choices encouraging risk taking, and promoting collaboration. We must encourage the development of self-respect as well as a sensitive regard for the rights and feelings of others. As the adult leaders in the school, we must model our expectations and articulate them clearly to both children and parents.
Most importantly, we need to make school a welcoming, fun, exciting place to be. By following the Cottage Values, we can succeed in that critical task. Ask yourself every day, every minute, "Am I making these kids want to come back to school tomorrow?" And then... "Am I making want to come back tomorrow. Learn more about us...
