Job Description

Title: Exceptional Children's Preschool Case Manager/Itinerant Teacher

Qualifications: Certified in Birth to Kindergarten; current teaching license; experience working with Exceptional Children and knowledge of EC procedures; ability to work with various agencies and personnel.

Reports to: EC Preschool Coordinator

Salary: State Salary Schedule

Terms of Employment: Part-time 10-Month Position (No Benefits)

Job Goal: The EC Preschool Teacher ensures that all EC Preschool students receive appropriate services by coordinating with local agencies.

To plan, organize, and represent instruction and instructional environments which help preschool students identified as having exceptional needs learn cognitive, social, behavioral, and/or communication skills that will contribute educational and emotional development.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Evaluate the need of referred students for Exceptional Children's Services in their specialty areas, using formal and informal assessment instruments; Assist in Coordinating/performing educational testing for identified children including administering and scoring test as appropriate; Coordinate IEP Committee Meetings for assigned EC Preschool students which includes:
  • Schedule meetings
  • Send Due Process notice/invitation to parent(s) guardians(s) and other attendees (includes making 2nd and 3rd contacts for due process)
  • Write clear, concise, and measurable components for the student's IEP, which must include the student's present level of performance, annual goal(s), and short-term objectives; or obtain from related services providers
  • Follow-up if parents do not attend meeting to ensure all forms are completed and signed;
Provide specialized instruction in the most natural setting for each student, as outlined in the student's IEP; Ensure that all students enrolled are placed on headcount; Maintain progress monitoring notebooks which include detailed records, anecdotal notes, and observations on each student, as a means of documenting each student's progress and mastery of IEP goals/objectives; Keep parents informed of the student's progress on a regular basis, through work sent home, notes, phone calls, etc; Make home visits to each student's home to discuss the student's progress, continuing needs, and/or family concerns as needed; Participate in continuing education, In-Services, and professional meetings to expand one's personal and professional horizons; Serve as LEA Rep/EC Preschool Director's designee when EC Preschool Coordinator is not available; Prepare folders with appropriate forms for all EC Preschool students; Act upon incoming telephone calls from parents/guardians and agencies; Maintain, up-date and audit preschool folders; Schedule and hold annual review/reevaluation meetings on EC Preschool children on head count; Co-ordinate related-service(s) delivery, as well as co-operate with other teachers and staff for the benefit of the student's educational development; Communicate with the staffs of Daycare centers, Head Start Centers, NC Pre-K classes, and any other agencies involved in the educational plan for the overall benefit of the student, regarding related services, programming, and performance; Schedule/coordinate and attend transition planning conferences for children transitioning from the Infant Toddler Program; Complete other duties/activities, as assigned by the EC Preschool Coordinator.

Working Environment: The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Work in this classification is considered light physical work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects. Generally, the job requires sitting, walking, and standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
