Job Title: Coordinator of Accounting

Location: Financial Services

Pay Grade: Administrator and Professional Salary Grade A06

Work Calendar: All 12 Month Employee

FLSA Status: Exempt


Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Financial Reporting, the Accounting Coordinator is responsible for assisting with maintaining a centralized financial accounting system for the school division in accordance with generally accepted governmental accounting principles and executing or reviewing the proper recording of all financial transactions in the system.


Reconciliation of accounts
  • Ensure the proper recording and reconciliation of Purchase Card transactions in the financial accounting system in coordination with the Accounts Payable department.
  • Maintain and analyze capital expenditures, additions and disposals of assets, and classification of capital outlay expenditures in the financial accounting system. Assist in annual capital asset inventory, asset entry, and reporting.
  • Prepare and/or assist in preparation of monthly and end-of-year journal entries and adjusting and correcting entries as needed.
  • Prepare reconciliations of general ledger account balances, including reconciliation of subsidiary ledgers and systems. Identify and track adjustment issues and root causes. Recommend and/or implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Monitor transactions, classifications of expenditures and account balances in centralized financial (general ledger) accounting system.
  • Coordinate with the Assistant Director of Accounting for grant reimbursement requests and assist in review and reconciliation of requests to expenditures in the general ledger and as submitted to grantors.
  • Research and identify transactions requiring 1099 reporting and assist with annual 1099 reporting to the IRS and vendors.
  • Research and perform due diligence on outstanding checks for unclaimed property reporting.
  • Coordinate with schools and departments for accurate and timely receipt of monthly reports in accordance with Finance department deadlines. Provide support and guidance to school and department staff for completion of monthly reporting requirements.
Assist with or conduct audits
  • Assist in internal audits and reviews of controls, processes, and procedures, for all departments and functions within the school division periodically and as needed and report findings and recommendations to management and school personnel.
  • Prepare and/or assist in preparation of interim and year end external audit schedules and responses to external auditor requests.

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university, in accounting, finance, business administration or related field.
  • Minimum of three years (3) of experience and/or training which would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform varied accounting procedures and related clerical functions.

  • Work environment is light work, with quiet environment, temperatures that are controlled, and no exposure to chemicals or other negative air quality elements.
  • The work is light work, requiring exertion of up to 20 pounds of force to move or lift objects.
