Job Overview:

We are looking for our next High School Principal with an unwavering belief that education is a civil right and that every child can learn. They must be fair and firm in their leadership approach and all aspects of their work with a lens for diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging. Someone who is a strong and competent educator as well as a strong leader and people manager is desired. Reporting directly to the Director of Teaching and Learning, who is a district Executive Team member, the High School Principal is a member of the Senior Leadership Team and serves as the building administrator to lead the educational program for the FRCS High School and represent the school to the community at large. Supervises and partners with the Assistant Principal, who supervises student discipline, attendance, activities, and records. Assists the principal in the daily operation of the school. The Assistant Principal also assists the Principal in the observation and evaluation of a portion of some of the building staff. It is critical that the Principal has experience supervising individuals and teams, is exceptionally skilled at leading teams and has the ability to balance autonomy with accountability when managing others.

Job Responsibilities:

Serves as the educational leader of the school
  • Manage daily school activities and personnel, including teachers and support staff
  • Establish class schedules and ensure they demonstrate a commitment to maximizing learning time in alignment with DESE requirements, and are ready and accurate each school year before students arrive
  • Leads faculty to delivery of curriculum through age-, grade- and, culturally-appropriate instructional strategies, serving the various learning styles and needs of FRCS students
  • Support implementation of MTSS by monitoring fidelity of implementation and working with culture and climate teams, including guidance team, to identify and address barriers to implementation through regular teaming and problem solving
  • Collaborates with the Director of Teaching and Learning and the Curriculum and Professional Development Specialist, Director of Culture and Climate, and other principals to ensure consistency and harmony in curriculum, instruction, and programming between schools.
  • Collaborates with the Deputy Director of Teaching and Learning and the Curriculum and Professional Development Specialist, and the instructional coach to implement and facilitate professional development, training, and mentoring of new staff
  • Oversees intervention programs and activities focused on closing the achievement gap
  • Oversees student and family-focused social/emotional services and programs in collaboration with the Director of Culture and Climate. Facilitates collaboration with adjustment counselors, guidance counselors, health, wellness, and disciplinary staff, and classroom staff to meet the social and emotional needs of all FRCS students.
  • Stay abreast of processes related to 504 Plans and IEPs
  • Collaborates with building staff and Student Services Team to coordinate external services and programming including DCF, community safety personnel, and first responders to meet the needs of students and families
  • Collaborates with the Director of Teaching and Learning, program coordinators, and instructional coach to integrate character education, leadership, and community service-learning experiences into the educational program of the school
  • Manages the building's educational budget to focus resources on meeting the needs of our students, staff, and families
Informs and implements high standards for teaching and learning in the building
  • Leads in hiring for high-quality direct reports in partnership with the HR Department.
  • Leads formal and informal teacher observations and professional goal plans; completes formal evaluations for direct reports with a focus on continuous growth and improvement.
  • Ensures that staff understand and follow FRCS policies and state requirements related to teaching and learning
  • Mentor teachers directly or provide mentoring in instructional approaches, classroom management, character role modeling, or through other resources.
  • Works in conjunction with the Curriculum and Professional Development Specialist to provide or arrange for professional development and leadership opportunities that support specific teacher needs and professional goals

Creates and supports a positive and safe school
  • Establish and coordinate security procedures for students staff and visitors; collaborate with operations team and others
  • Fosters communication and collaboration among staff, families, and students to support the school and district goals.
  • Oversees development and organization of school-wide events, activities, and traditions that create a sense of identity and positive school culture within the building. Encourage active participation from all stakeholders.
  • Serves as an ambassador of the school by attending school and district events as well as communicating to families and the school community
  • Supports School Deans/Assistant Principals and culture staff in addressing student discipline issues
  • Elevate issues and challenges to superiors in an effort to problem-solve and collaborate; managing up
  • Stakeholder engagement and always considering who is not at the table and should be included; including student/family voice
  • Support teachers in sharing ownership of student safety, learning, and accountability
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Teaching and Learning.

Minimum Qualifications- Required:
  • Education: Hold a Master's degree
  • Minimum of three (3) years of Teaching, Department Head or Lead, Administrative or Assistant Principal or Principal experience, including providing supervision to teachers and staff
  • SEI Endorsement or willing to earn within one year
  • Understands and is current on relevant MA DESE regulations and best practices
  • Experience working with students & families of diverse ethnic backgrounds
  • Demonstrable understanding of ABAR (anti-bias/anti-racist) and its place in education; someone who is active in their ABAR/DEI practice in this work; courageously interrupts inequity
  • Comprehensive knowledge of curriculum, instruction, assessment and evaluation
  • Demonstrated experience in the instruction of students with varied learning styles and levels of proficiency
  • Expert-level written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and consistency in meeting deadlines
  • Commitment to and experience with data-driven decision-making to inform instruction and continuous improvement
  • Ability to assess grade-level needs to plan and lead teams of staff accordingly
  • Strong interpersonal, coaching, and management skills with the ability to develop staff by offering constructive feedback through regular observations and evaluations
  • Team builder with effective communication and project management skills who can maximize a team's potential while diplomatically resolving conflicts
  • Experience with and commitment to leadership and community service learning.
  • Financial acumen, enough to develop and manage budgets and allocate resources.
  • Pass CORI clearance, and fingerprinting FBI background check
  • Current authorization to work in the United States - Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment
Minimum Qualifications- Preferred
  • Current certification from Massachusetts Department of Education as a School Principal/Assistant Principal 5-12 or 9-12 and SEI Endorsement

Salary range is $110,000 to 120,000 commensurate with experinece.
