Job Description

*Provide assistance to adult students working toward completing their GED, high school diploma, or simply learning the basic skills necessary for living and working in their community. *Provide academic assistance in the form of writing, grammar, and pronunciation tutoring to current Above the Notch Community School students. *Provide information and technical assistance. *Respond to inquiries and inform students of relevant program resources. *Help to advertise Above the Notch Program offerings to area residents who have not completed their high school diploma requirements. *Recruit unpaid volunteers to provide support to adult students who live in the communities of each student participating in the program. *Establish community resources to meet with students either through the local libraries or other community spaces. *Willing to tutor on a consistent basis for a minimum of a full semester. *Patient, dependable, understanding, and flexible *Good basic reading and writing skills. *Basic math skills. • Good communication skills. • Sensitivity to cultural differences. Responsibilities *Complete interview and mandatory orientation. *Complete training workshop offered through Above the Notch Community School *Tutor individual students, one-on-one, or small groups, *Recruit and supervise additional unpaid volunteers as area tutors. *Report to and work closely with the Volunteer Literacy Program Supervisor. *Location: Tutoring will occur at local public libraries throughout the North Country and/or at the Above the Notch Community School, located in the Hugh J. Gallen Career and Technical Center at Littleton High School, High Street, Littleton, New Hampshire. *High School students, who are qualified to tutor, may use hours from this program towards their Community Service Graduation Requirement. *Teachers and paraprofessionals may apply these hours to their professional development hours. *Community members will have the satisfaction of helping individual students complete their high school education. *The program also has a need for tutors to assist new immigrants to navigate life in the North Country.
