Job Description

The DHH Program Director oversees all aspects of the program with support from the Executive Director. The DHH classrooms are located in multiple host schools in Norton for preschool to grade 12+. One high school classroom is hosted by Bristol-Plymouth Regional Technical High School in Taunton. Credentials and Experience Requirements: Fluency in American Sign Language, required Master's Degree or higher in Special Education or related Deaf Education field, required DESE license as an administrator, or eligible for the license Experience with IEP process; MA Special Education laws and regulations; and IDEA Demonstrated experience with program development Excellent communication and organizational skills Demonstrated experience in grant writing and budget preparation Experience with children with reduced hearing, Deafness and other disabilities Knowledge and understanding of Deaf Culture Knowledge of Mass. Curriculum Frameworks and the MCAS-ALT Essential Duties And Responsibilities: The essential functions or duties listed below are illustrations of the type of work that is performed and is not an exhaustive list of the duties performed by this position. Provide on-going coordination of READS DHH Program. Collaborate with the host school leadership teams regularly to coordinate student schedules, classroom locations, special events and other ongoing concerns. Coordinate referral, intake and termination procedures for all students. Work with sending district personnel regarding all matters pertaining to the case management of students in the DHH program. Coordinate IEP development, annual review and re-evaluation processes for all students. Maintain communication with families and guardians of students as needed. Supervise and evaluate all teachers, counselors, therapists and support staff in the DHH program. Evaluate program effectiveness and make recommendations for additions and changes as needed. Administer overall daily operations, including communication with building principals, transportation schedule, mainstreaming issues, parent communication, therapy services, materials and supplies, etc. Work with staff to adjust curricula in alignment with MA Curriculum Frameworks and research in Deaf Education. Recruit, interview and recommend new staff members for hiring. Develop appropriate professional development offerings for all DHH staff throughout the school year. Support the staff to develop appropriate MCAS-ALT. Develop and implement parent programs as needed. Regularly attend administrative team meetings. Participate in DHH budget preparation, including personnel, equipment, and supplies and make recommendations to the Business Manager in preparation for meetings with the DHH budget subcommittee. Coordinate the ordering of materials and supplies and maintain an inventory of READS DHH items. Assist with coordination of enrollment and tuition billing information with the Business Office. Assist in grant writing. Work with the Executive Director to evaluate programs and identify future program and service needs for students who are Deaf or have reduced hearing. Other tasks as assigned by the Executive Director Working Conditions and Physical Demands: Must demonstrate an ability to communicate effectively with staff, students, families and district personnel throughout the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Program; intervene in crisis situations when necessary for students up to age 22; independently review materials and communicate with staff, students and families, and regularly circulate throughout the schools. Must be able to quickly respond to calls in areas in and around the host school district(s) in a timely manner; must have the resources and capacity to travel to locations as needed and perform all duties as assigned. This includes the physical capacity to prompt or assist in modeling interventions as needed.
