Job Description - 21st Century - Tutor

Title: 21st Century - Tutor

Department: After School Programming

Classification: Extra Duty/Stipend

Supervised by: 21st Century Coordinator/K-12 Principal

Work Year: Assigned by Principal

Job Purpose Statement:

  • Coordinates all aspects of the After School Tutoring Lab
  • Performs work of a variable nature in accordance with established procedures and guidelines.
  • Performs a variety of tasks in the development of an instructional program by working with students in small groups.
  • Prepares instructional materials, maintains classroom discipline, and conducts planned activities.
  • Supports students registering for online classes.

Job Qualifications: Education and Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent;

Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required:
  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance
  • Valid Driver's License and evidence of insurability
  • Successfully pass district background screening

  • Knowledge of student behavior expectations and methods to assure appropriate conduct.
  • Ability to learn the operation of telephones, computer systems and other equipment, as required by the position.
  • Implements planned activities for individuals and small groups for the purpose of increasing student learning.

  • Keeps necessary records to evaluate students' progress.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Answers inquiries regarding books for instructional support materials.
  • Composes routine letters, memos, requisitions, and other related information.
  • Supervises students by keeping a calm and disciplined atmosphere in the After School Tutoring Lab.
  • Maintains a positive and effective working relationship with staff, students, parents and patrons.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

    • Ability to comprehend, interpret and explain pertinent laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
    • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence and memos.

Mathematical:

    • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
    • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret graphs.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to make accurate mathematical computations or apply standardized statistical procedures.

Reasoning Ability:

    • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
