Job Description: Lead Instructional Assistant

Reporting to: Dean of Operations

Founded in 2003, Bright Star Schools has been serving students, families, and communities in Los Angeles for over 20 years! We currently serve over 3,600 students in 9 schools in the communities of South Los Angeles, Koreatown, and the San Fernando Valley. EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's Degree is required.
  • Bilingual in Korean and/or Spanish is desired but not required.


JOB DUTIES (may include, but not limited to the following)
  1. Instructional Logistics Support
  • Create weekly Instructional Assistant schedules
  • Coordinate teacher substitute coverage
  • Provide coverage for teachers when necessary and appropriate
  • Provide resources as necessary


  1. Supervision Logistics Support
  • Work closely with administration and staff to ensure a safe and positive school climate
  • Meet daily with IAs to provide updates and feedback on performance
  • Meet daily with Dean of Operations
  • Create support staff assignments for student supervision, including (but not limited to):
  • Student Arrival, Bathroom Break, Transition, Lunch, Hallway/stairwell sweeps, Student Dismissal
  • Find alternate coverage for supervision assignments in support staff member absence


  1. Classroom Support
  • Orients and provides instructional assistance to individuals or small groups of students.
  • Tutors individuals and small groups of students in various subject areas.
  • Assists teachers in establishing and maintaining a clean, safe and pleasant classroom and learning environment.
  • Assists in preparing instructional materials.
  • Assists in maintaining student records and files.
  • Operates equipment such as copy machines, computers and audiovisual equipment.
  • Supervise students in all indoor and outdoor activities, ensuring a safe environment.
  • Supervise students during breakfast, lunch and snack time.
  • Guide children's behaviors in a positive- and restorative way that teaches self-respect along with respect for others and the community around them.
  • Encourage children to interact positively with other children and people around them.
  • Maintain open lines of communication with the teachers and administration to ensure the individual needs of all students are met.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Must be organized, creative, independent and self-motivated, enthusiastic, dependable, detail-oriented and flexible in scheduling and prioritization, and driven by excellence.
  • Must possess good communication skills to present facts and recommendations effectively in oral and written form, including accurate grammar and business correspondence knowledge.
  • Interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective relationships; demonstrated ability to communicate in situations requiring tact and poise; skilled in confidentiality and discretion.
  • Must present a neat, professional appearance.
  • Must be able to adjust tasks and focus with composure, and in accordance with changing deadlines and prior.


LOCATION: North Hills, Los Angeles, CA

Salary and Benefits:

Salary: Starts at $21 per hour, dependent on experience

Status: Full-time
