GSB seeks a dynamic and experienced business manager to lead a team of nine school operations professionals and oversee a wide range of financial and administrative responsibilities. The key areas of responsibility include: Financial and Accounting, Human Resources, Risk Management, Compliance and Reporting, and Strategic Planning and Leadership. Additionally, the Senior Business Manager will oversee the team members responsible for Facilities and Operations, Development & Communications, and Admissions & Outreach. The Senior Business Manager will be a member of the school’s senior leadership team, working closely and collaboratively with the Head of School and others at the school. The Senior Business Manager will report directly to the school’s Board of Trustees. The opportunity is available immediately.
Essential Responsibilities
1. Financial Management
Ensure the safekeeping of the school’s assets and the integrity of the accounting records; provide accurate and timely financial information to the Board of Trustees and the Head of School
Oversee preparation of the budget and other financial projections in collaboration with school administration, the Board, and relevant stakeholders; monitor budget and projected performance regularly and provide timely financial reports to school leadership and Board
Lead analysis to guide tuition and compensation setting strategies in consultation with the Board. Member of Financial Aid Committee
Manage tuition, afterschool and other revenue collection, including bank deposits and booking corresponding transactions
Responsible for the administration of student contracts
Manage accounts receivable, including communication with those who owe funds to the school
Manage accounts payable, purchasing and vendor contracts
Identify opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements
Manage all accounts, ledgers and reporting systems ensuring compliance with the appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements
Coordinate with the school’s outside accountant to complete month-end and year-end close process
Participate in the annual audit and filing of Form 990s
2. Human Resources Management
Complete regular payroll working with outside payroll processor
Process periodic retirement contributions
Administer benefit program including enrollment, claim resolution, change reporting and communication to employees
Assist the senior management team and Board of Trustees on compensation recommendations and decisions
Assist in the issuance of employment letters for returning faculty and staff and onboarding new faculty and staff
Assist the senior management team and Board of Trustees with retirement plan and health insurance plan selection and administration
Maintain accurate and confidential records of personnel information and ensure compliance with relevant employment laws and regulations
Resolve day-to-day HR requests such as employment verifications, background checks, NYPFL and FMLA compliance, maternity leaves, COBRA letters, creditable coverage letters, and unemployment and worker’s compensation claims
3. Risk Management and Insurance
Collaborate with Board, counsel and insurance brokers regarding all insurance and risk management matters
4. Compliance and Reporting
Maintain compliance with local, state and federal government reporting requirements
Prepare and submit required reports and documentation to regulatory agencies and funding sources
Serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors and regulatory inspectors, facilitating audits and inspections as necessary
5. Strategic Planning and Leadership
Develop and maintain a highly collaborative working relationship with the Board of Trustees and Head of School to ensure cohesive messaging of the school’s strategic goals and objectives, including their financial implications, for consideration by board committees and other key constituencies.
Participate in strategic planning activities to support the long-term goals and objectives of the school
Provide leadership and guidance to administrative staff and other team members, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement
Collaborate with school leadership to develop and implement policies and procedures that promote organizational effectiveness and sustainability
6. Oversight of Facilities and Operations, Marketing & Communications, and Admissions
Supervise the Senior Director of Operations and the team of five which manage the facilities and operations, including security, transportation, foodservice, afterschool programs, maintenance, and inspections and certifications
Supervise the Director of Development & Communications
Supervise the Director of Admissions & Outreach
Along with Board of Trustees, oversight of the completion of building construction and any new projects
Procure necessary supplies and services for the school, negotiating contracts and agreements as needed
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in business administration, finance, accounting or a related field
Minimum of 5 years of experience in financial management, preferably in an educational or nonprofit setting
Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices, budgeting processes, and financial analysis
Computer software literacy with Google for workplace, Quickbooks; knowledge of FACTS preferred
Fluent in English; German not required, but would be an asset
