Pivot Charter School is a tuition-free public charter school that provides independent study instruction to K-12 students through an online standards-based curriculum. Our team strives to cultivate student independence through executive function skill-building, kindness, and daily communications with students and parents.   

The Speech and Language Pathologist works directly under the Director of Special Education to provide screening, diagnostic evaluation, and therapy for students who are found to be deficient in the following areas of language skills: articulation, syntax, phonology, semantics, fluency, and voice quality. 

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Identifies students through screening and referral

  • Provides speech and language assessment, diagnosing speech and language disorders; interpret findings to teachers, administrators, and parents

  • Assists in designing an Individualized Education Program (IEP) with goals and objectives designed to remediate identified deficiencies

  • Implements services aligned to attaining all IEP goals related to speech 

  • Attends required meetings, IEP meetings, staff development, training sessions and other meetings as assigned

  • Coordinates services, prepares appropriate materials, and submits reports in a timely manner

  • Maintains confidentiality with complete security 

  • Communicates and works cooperatively and effectively with students, parents, staff, personnel from other agencies and the public

  • Meets with parents on a regular basis to review student progress and works on

            individual educational-related needs

  • Works closely with other members of the program staff to develop and maintain

            curriculum and standards

  • Participates in professional growth activities such as conferences, classes, and staff meetings

  • Schedules and maintains individual and group therapy programs in accordance with student's needs and IEP

  • Teaches/instructs students for the purpose of ensuring successful progress towards student's goals and objectives, maintaining progress notes as appropriate

  • Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor

 

Job Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Effectively understand and carry out both written and verbal instructions, while also providing clear guidance to others

  • Communicate clearly and effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization

  • Exercise sound judgment in prioritizing tasks and managing time efficiently

  • Maintain strict confidentiality of student information according to district policies

  • Utilize instructional materials and technologies proficiently, including document cameras, projectors, video equipment, word processing software, presentation/web design software programs like PowerPoint, and spreadsheet applications like Excel

 

Experience and Education Requirements:

  • High School diploma

  • Must possess a valid California Credential with an authorization to provide services in Language, Speech and Hearing or be eligible to apply for a Speech-Language

  • Pathology Services Credential

  • Possession of a California State Speech Language Pathologist License is preferred

  • Demonstrated experience in computer environment with knowledge of the installation, operation, repair, maintenance, and support of PC systems, applications, and hardware 

  • Ability to utilize spreadsheets (Excel, Google Sheets) to audit systems and data management

 

Physical Demands:

  • Occasional traversing throughout assigned school building(s)  

  • Often sitting for extended periods  

  • Standing for periods of time  

  • Moderate lifting from 15-50 pounds 

  • Some moving of various items - up to 50 pounds 

  • Manual dexterity to use office equipment  

  • Repetitive operation of computer keyboard 

  • Ability to write legibly

 

Terms of Employment:

  • Must have a valid CA driver’s license

  • Must have a valid California Credential with an authorization to provide services in Language, Speech and Hearing or be eligible to apply for a Speech-Language

  • Must receive clearance of the Criminal Record Check

  • Must supply proof of a negative TB test
