1 Year Special Education Teacher (one on one)
POSITION SUMMARY
This position will develop, modify and teach student-specific lesson plans designed to meet competency-
based high school credit requirements, in collaboration with highly qualified content area teachers. In
addition, this position is responsible for case management, development and writing of IEP and
associated documentation, and oversight of program implementation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Plans and facilitates academic instruction utilizing collaborative learning methodologies and a
multi-sensory approach.
- Assists student in the development of appropriate social-emotional competencies.
- Facilitates collaborative social and behavioral participation within a community setting, in
ongoing consultation with mental health provider(s) and Board Certified Behavior Analyst(s),
and oversees community-based programming for the purpose of post-secondary transition
planning.
- Tracks and communicates the student's academic progress with the IEP team on a regular basis.
- Ensures fidelity of the program is maintained, and concerns are reported to the designated
supervisor.
? Attends some mandatory professional development sessions on behavior management and
curriculum mapping provided by the school district.
? Maintains consistent communication with IEP team, including content specific educators.

Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Superintendent or designee.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Understands the rights of students with disabilities and possesses knowledge of the IDEA.
- Knowledge of and experience in de-escalation techniques and crisis intervention strategies.
- Skill in developing and implementing behavior management plans.
- Strong behavior management skills and the ability to differentiate general education curriculum.
- Knowledge and experience with literacy intervention strategies and competency based
education are preferred.
- Flexible in responding to unpredictable situations and able to modify teaching strategies to
meet the needs of the student.
- Skill in coordinating with outside agencies and resources and working effectively with other
educators, therapists and support staff.
- Ability to work with a student of diverse learning backgrounds.
- Possess good interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Able to maintain a calm and supportive demeanor.
- Possess characteristics of responsibility and desire to help others.
- Ability to work independently applying critical thinking skills and problem solving to various
situations.
- Ability to monitor and record detailed observations of student behavior.

Physical ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined above, in addition to the
following: While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to stand,
walk, and sit. The employee is regularly required to see, talk, and hear. The employee is regularly
required to use hands to manipulate, handle, or feel. The employee is regularly required to reach with
hands and arms, stoop, kneel, or crouch. Employee must occasionally move equipment and/or supplies..
The job is performed for the most part in an office or school setting with occasional outside weather
conditions. The noise level is that of a typical school. Mental demands requiring decision making,
analytical and organizational skills in order to achieve work objectives, draw daily operational
conclusions, solve practical problems, use computer technology and to present information for use by
administration in making decisions.
