SALARY: Pay Grade: 79-80 (Depending on Education and Experience)
REPORTS TO: Facilities Officer
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: Full time - 12 Months
JOB GOAL: Performs a variety of tasks to help ensure the day-to-day success of the school
district's operations and custodial services program.
KNOWLEDGE AND ATTRIBUTES: - Knowledge of the requirements of maintaining school buildings and grounds in a safe, clean, and orderly condition.
- Must be able to work independently and lead, coach, evaluate, and support the work of custodial teams.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations, safety hazards, and safety practices.
- Knowledge of building, fire, and life safety codes and regulations for school facilities.
- Knowledge and use of computers, including Google applications such as Gmail, Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Google Drive.
- Working knowledge and experience in entering work orders and creating reports in the work order system.
- Demonstrates a commitment to continuous quality improvement; supports and exhibits organization core values of caring, respect, integrity, responsibility, high expectations, customer-driven, and valuing diversity.
- Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing and establish and maintain positive working relationships with all school personnel.
- Ability to speak before groups of people with poise, voice control and confidence.
- Ability to develop and compile a variety of records and reports.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with parents, teachers, students, administrators, community leaders, agency representatives and others.
- Must be adaptable to performing under stress and when confronted with emergency situations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - Meet with Lead Custodians to create plans of support for custodial teams at school sites
- Travel to assigned school sites to assist school administration and custodial teams with staffing, training, scheduling, planning, cleanliness, and all other aspects of a custodian's daily duties.
- Train and provide work direction to custodial staff at assigned schools.
- Perform audits and building cleanliness inspections and provides feedback to custodial teams, as well as school administrators, throughout the school year to ensure the high expectations of the custodial program are met.
- Plan and organize monthly Head Custodian meetings, Summer Workshops, and other trainings, seminars, and special events.
- Monitor and provide information on the goals and progress of the custodial program.
- Determines needs and selects and purchases custodial and general services equipment.
- Develop a plan for custodial equipment replacement.
- Assist school staff in recruiting and retaining school custodians.
- Plan and review fiscal matters related to custodial budgeting.
- Inspect facilities and grounds and contacts proper authority if fire, safety, or other related problems are evident or occur.
- Walk schools daily and enter maintenance needs into FMX system
- Work weekly with Road Warrior Teams to prioritize and help with school facility needs.
- Assess and report needs of outdoor areas at all campuses.
- Mobile Unit Inspections
- Facilitate work orders from fire inspections
- Provide communication on status of work orders by serving as a liaison between foremen and schools.
- Inspect, coordinate, and assist in preparation of sites for large district and community events
- Support at large events (Graduation, walk to school, Open Houses, etc)
- Assess buildings after storms
- Assist during crisis on or off school campus (bus wrecks, missing children, fire, gas leak, intruders on campus, etc.)
- Inspect all furniture and prioritize school furniture needs
- Seek and implement ways to improve daily school operations in order to maximize safety and promote a positive teaching and learning environment.
- Interpret, apply, and explain rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Ability to meet schedules and timelines.
- Ability to make appropriate decisions without the assistance from the immediate supervisor.
- Be motivated to produce a high quality work product.
- Ensure the operational set up and breakdown of all district events.
- Ability to respond as needed to assist with emergency situations, including nights and weekends.
- Performs other duties and accepts responsibilities as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: - Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of grasping, kneeling, sitting, walking, stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, talking, seeing, hearing, and repetitive motion.
ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: - Minimum of a bachelor's degree for consideration.
- Background and experience in school administration preferred.
- Experience in managing the daily operations of a school.
- Possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license.
- Must be able to work flexible hours as needed to perform the duties of the position.
