Job Title: Food Services Director Supervisor: Partnership Director Start Date: JULY 1 Description: The Food Services Director is responsible for overseeing all aspects of Codman Academy's daily food preparation and service. In collaboration with the Wellness Department, the Director is responsible for building a strong food service learning program. Responsibilities include (but not limited to): Management & Supervision Plan, organize, and direct the school's food service and nutrition program; also develops and implements policies and procedures to assure compliance with federal, State, and local laws and regulations Plan menu and procure food for daily breakfast, lunch and snack service Provide on-site support to assist team in preparing and serving breakfast, lunch and snack Supervise and train the Food Service Supervisor and Assistant and guide the overall operations of the Food Service and Nutrition programs Directs the selection of foods and supplies, and coordinates and checks for proper storage and efficient use; inspects food for quality Collaborate with administrative staff in management of all aspects of USDA school food program regulations, compliance, and reporting processes Submission of claims and budget reconciliation Prepare written and oral reports and maintain records Monitors the receipts, preparation, presentation and serving of food for the purpose of ensuring safety and budgetary parameters are met and meals are presented in an appealing manner. Communicate with school administrators, parents, and outside organization; resolves issues and conflicts and exchanges information Approve the procurement of products and supplies Analyze food service operations and financial statements and takes corrective action Assist the teaching staff with nutrition resources to integrate nutrition in the classroom Operate a variety of office equipment including a computer and related software, operates a variety of kitchen equipment as necessary Teach elective/enrichment course(s) to high school students re: food service profession Other related duties, as assigned by the Head of School, or Chief Operating Officer Teaching Planning, organizing and implementing an appropriate instructional program to teach culinary arts Provide culinary and vocational training to students Technical Skills, Knowledge & Abilities Knowledge of procedures, policies, practices and methods of food service operation. Knowledge of (and ability to translate knowledge of) sustainable food operation, recipes and menus. Knowledge of local, State, and Federal regulations regarding school food service nutritional standards, dietary guidelines and reporting requirements. Knowledge of facility management and maintenance: Facility food and equipment specification, facility operation, profit and loss analysis and procurement procedures. Knowledge of technical computer applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, as well as working knowledge of K-12 food service software systems, operating applications management, and point of sale. Knowledge of all Federal, State, and City health sanitation and safety policies, laws and guidelines as they relate to food service preparation Ability to direct, lead, and communicate Ability to supervise and train Ability to prepare and administer budgets and reports Physical Demands Ability to smell, taste, and feel, in order to determine quality of raw and prepared food products Ability to work with frequent interruptions and to simultaneously supervise a variety of tasks Ability to stand, stoop, reach, and bend; mobility of arms to reach, dexterity of hands to grasp and manipulate large and small objects Ability to read small print Ability to lift, push, pull objects, which may approximate 50 pounds Ability to stand for long periods Community Engagement and Stewardship We are crew, not passengers, and we uphold that ideal as we support each other in reaching our shared goals.
