Position Overview: The School is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Elementary Special Education Teacher to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing individualized instruction and support to students with diverse learning needs. This role involves developing and implementing IEPs, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team, and fostering a positive learning environment that promotes student growth and achievement.
Key Responsibilities: Instruction and Curriculum Development: - Design and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) tailored to meet the unique needs of each student.
- Deliver engaging, differentiated instruction in a variety of subjects, adapting teaching methods and materials to accommodate students' learning styles and abilities.
- Utilize evidence-based strategies and interventions to support students' academic, social, and emotional development.
- Integrate technology and other resources to enhance learning experiences.
Assessment and Progress Monitoring: - Conduct formal and informal assessments to evaluate students' progress and identify areas of need.
- Regularly monitor and document students' performance, adjusting instructional strategies as necessary to ensure continuous improvement.
- Prepare and maintain accurate records, including progress reports, report cards, and other documentation required by the district and state.
Classroom Management: - Create a structured, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student engagement and positive behavior.
- Implement behavior management plans and interventions to address individual student needs.
- Foster a culture of respect, collaboration, and responsibility within the classroom.
Collaboration and Communication: - Work closely with general education teachers, paraprofessionals, and other support staff to provide coordinated services and support for students.
- Participate in IEP meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and other school-based meetings to discuss student progress and develop action plans.
- Communicate regularly with parents and caregivers to provide updates on student progress and strategies for support at home.
- Collaborate with outside agencies, therapists, and other professionals as needed to support students' needs.
Professional Development and Compliance: - Stay current with best practices in special education and participate in ongoing professional development opportunities.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and district regulations, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and other relevant laws.
- Participate in school and district initiatives aimed at improving student outcomes and enhancing special education services.
Qualifications: - Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education or a related field.
- Valid Illinois teaching license with a Special Education endorsement.
- Experience working with elementary school students with disabilities, preferred.
- Strong knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a team and independently.
