Position Summary:

The role of the Early College Academic Tutor is to support students' academic learning and achievement in early college coursework. The ideal candidate should possess excellent instructional skills to provide academic support to students in a variety of early college course offerings, including but not limited to Social Ethics, Composition, and history. Ongoing support and intervention are provided via a multi-tiered system of support model and includes developing individual, small-group, and whole-group instructional scaffolds, academic tools, and lessons. Academic tutors will visit early college classrooms during office hours, support blocks, study halls, and after school tutoring sessions.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • Valid Massachusetts Secondary Teaching License preferred
  • Teaching or tutoring experience in an urban setting preferred
  • Demonstrated cultural competence and sensitivity; proven experience in teaching students from diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to work effectively with support staff, partners, and students to advocate for student success
  • Proficiency in oral and written English; Spanish preferred
  • Reliable vehicle and a valid MA state driver's license, or license issued by another state required, or other reliable means of transportation between school sites

SKILLS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the Innovation and Grants Management Department, the Early College Academic Tutor assumes a broad range of responsibilities:
  • Provides direct tutoring on high school campuses for students through classroom visits, pull-out meetings, and office hours during and after the school day
  • Tracks and monitors student progress of students on current caseload, adjusting tutoring strategies as needed to meet individual student needs
  • Creates and maintains an up-to-date schedule of tutoring sessions and organized study groups; includes student attendance at all tutoring sessions
  • Coordinates school-based aspects of early college tutoring and communicates scheduling with early college staff and early college administrator
  • Performs administrative tasks such as collecting, organizing, and disseminating statistical data; maintains and update student data/tracking for students on tutoring caseload
  • Develops and maintains positive relationships with teachers, education staff, district personnel, and partners
  • Performs all other related duties as directed by the early college administrator

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
  • The Early College Tutor is an itinerant part-time, non-union position
  • Part-time; estimated 15-20 hours per week
  • Hourly Rate: $32.00
  • September 30, 2024-June 4, 2025, does not include school vacation weeks or holidays
  • Grant funded position
