Teaching Assistant roles available in our Hanover School. **$2500 sign on bonus! Assists the classroom teacher with implementation of student programs, behavior protocol and general classroom supervision. •Provides group and individual instruction under the supervision of the teacher and/or specialist •Responsible for supervision at all times •Implements group and individual behavior plans, collects data, requests appropriate assistance when necessary •Responsible for providing a neat, organized and safe environment •Aware of each student's medical issues and concerns, medications, appointments and observes students to determine the need for assistance from health care staff in consultation with teacher •Communicates with support services, clinical staff and specialists to address individual needs of the students in consultation with teacher •Attends all faculty meetings/in-services as scheduled, completing all required courses as mandated by O.C.C.S. and D.O.E. •Aware of and follows levels of independence and student safety protocol •Assists the teacher in the preparation and development of teaching materials •Helps maintain classroom environment to facilitate learning experiences for students •Monitors issues of concern and collects data as requested •Assumes lunchroom, recreational and cab duty supervision as scheduled •Assists in maintaining a maximum level of safety for students •Acts as an emergency replacement for the classroom teacher in the event that the regular teacher is absent, utilizing a substitute as an assistant in the classroom •Keeps all student-related information confidential •Intervenes physically in behaviorally aggressive situations as trained, using Safety Care. techniques •Works with students on ADL (Activities of Daily Living) skills to include hygiene, toileting skills, domestic skills, community skills, social, behavioral and recreational skills and money management •Upholds the mission and corporate values of St. Coletta and Cardinal Cushing Centers •Regular attendance and promptly reporting to work at the beginning of the scheduled shift are essential functions of this position •Assumes additional responsibilities as required
Job Requirements
Related Work Experience: Experience with special needs population preferred Formal Education High school diploma Bachelor's degree in Special Education or related field preferred A valid driver's license Certifications: Receive initial certification and re-certification as appropriate in the following: •First Aid/CPR •Safety Care Skills/Abilities/Competencies Patience Flexibility Common sense and good judgment Dedication Good communication skills Ability to follow instructions Ability to respond effectively in emergency situations Ability to work as part of a team
