Job Description: English Language Development Teacher

Reporting to: Principal

Summary: The English Language Development teacher works closely with teachers and administrators to plan and execute a comprehensive plan to increase student achievement of English Language Learners and students with intervention needs. The ELD teacher will provide language acquisition support and instruct Early and Intermediate Language Learners in Designated ELD Courses. The ELD teacher will also support and instruct Intervention for students.

Qualifications & Experience:
  • Single subject, ELA or multi-subject credential
  • (Preferred) At least three years teaching English Language Learners/ multilingual learners (MLLs) and a demonstrated track record of success in improving their language acquisition
  • Familiarity with the policies, procedures, and training associated with the administration of the Initial and Summative ELPAC.
  • Proficiency in analyzing, communicating, and presenting data.
  • Understanding and command of the best practices in teaching MLLs using the California English Language Development Standards.
  • (Preferred) Fluent in Spanish and/or Korean
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Possession of either Bilingual, Cross-Cultural, Language and Academic Development (BCLAD) certificate; Cross-Cultural, Language and Academic Development (CLAD) certificate; ELA1 Authorization; or Language Development Specialist (LDS) certificate required

Responsibilities:

Primary Job Duties:
  • Teaches approximately 3 Designated ELD courses/periods for at least 60 students on campus.
  • Assists and supports teachers in the implementation of the Bright Star Schools' EL Master Plan and initiatives, including Designated and Integrated ELD instruction, and provides feedback to teachers on the use of instructional strategies and classroom practices related to ELD standards.
  • Provide 4 Integrated ELD professional development sessions at your school site over the course of the year.
  • Develop and facilitate ELPAC goal setting meetings with students.
  • Support administrators, teachers, paraprofessionals, and parents in accelerating

academic achievement via Designated ELD, Integrated ELD, and push-in classroom support.
  • Attends and monitors site-level advisory committees (e.g. SAC, ELAC).
  • Supports the coordination of all language-related testing of all students.
  • Conducts demonstration lessons and provides feedback to teachers on the effective and evidence based Designated and Integrated ELD methodologies to ensure equitable access to core standards-based instruction for MLL students.
  • Develops model lessons that provide Designated and Integrated ELD to ensure access to grade-level content area instruction for MLL students.
  • Lead communication to families for Initial ELPAC scheduling and Initial/Summative ELPAC score reporting.
  • Supports teachers to manage, interpret and use formative assessment data, systematically examine student work, plan and deliver appropriate instruction, intervention and accommodation strategies for MLL students.
  • Actively participates in the ELD Cadre learning experiences.

Instructional Responsibilities
  • Adhere to Bright Star curriculum maps and guidelines
  • Create weekly lesson plans/overviews
  • Plan rigorous lessons aligned to the California State, California Common Core standards, and California English Language Development Standards.
  • Differentiate lesson plans for a variety of learners (kinesthetic, gifted students, MLLs, and/or students with IEPs, etc.)
  • Implement feedback from administrator regarding lesson plans and/or execution
  • Establish and maintain positive classroom environment
  • Implement Bright Star's Expected School Learning Results
  • Support instruction with school-wide supplemental programs
  • Maintain grade books and meet reporting deadlines
  • Communicate with families regarding student academics and behavior
  • Collaborate with Inclusive Education (SpEd) Team
  • Use planning periods for the advancement of student academics
  • Tutor students in need of remediation
  • Perform other adjunct duties

Salary: BSS salary is based on experience and education, and was created in consideration of the longer school day and school year. Please click here for our salary scale. Additionally, all credentialed ELD Teacher hires are eligible for a $5,000 signing bonus for the 24-25 school year.

Status: Full Time

Start Date: An exceptional candidate will assume a full time role no later than October 2024.
