Job Summary: The Director of STEM and Career and Technical Education (CTE) will provide visionary leadership and strategic direction for the development, implementation, and evaluation of the district's STEM and CTE programs. This role is responsible for enhancing educational opportunities that prepare students for high-wage, high-demand careers in STEM fields and technical trades, ensuring alignment with post-secondary education and workforce needs. The Director will collaborate with district staff, higher education institutions, business and industry partners, and community organizations to create robust pathways that support student achievement and career readiness.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities: - Leadership & Coordination:
- Lead the district's efforts in STEM and CTE curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to enhance and expand STEM and CTE programs.
- Provide leadership and direction for district-wide STEM and CTE initiatives, ensuring alignment with state and federal requirements.
- Oversee the development and implementation of STEM pathways and career technical programs across K-12 grades.
- Program Development & Implementation:
- Develop and implement innovative STEM and CTE programs that align with labor market demands and student interests.
- Coordinate with higher education partners to establish dual credit opportunities and certification programs.
- Develop and maintain industry partnerships to provide internship and career opportunities for students.
- Facilitate professional development for STEM and CTE teachers, ensuring instructional practices are up-to-date and effective.
- Ensure compliance with all state and federal regulations related to STEM and CTE programs, including Perkins funding and other grants.
- Regularly monitor and report on the effectiveness of STEM and CTE programs, using data to drive continuous improvement.
- Oversee the preparation and submission of all required reports, including financial reports for grants and program evaluations.
- Budget & Resource Management:
- Develop and manage the budget for STEM and CTE programs, ensuring efficient use of resources.
- Seek additional funding opportunities through grants and partnerships to support program expansion.
- Maintain and manage all STEM and CTE-related equipment and supplies, ensuring they are available and in good condition.
Community & Industry Engagement: - Serve as the district's liaison to community and industry partners, establishing strong relationships that support program goals.
- Organize and lead advisory councils for STEM and CTE programs to gain input from industry experts and ensure program relevance.
- Promote STEM and CTE programs through community outreach, including organizing events like STEM fairs and career expos.
Qualifications: - Master's Degree in a STEM field, Career and Technical Education, or a related area; valid teaching certification required.
- Minimum of five years of experience in teaching and three years in a leadership role related to STEM or CTE.
Skills and Knowledge: - In-depth knowledge of STEM and CTE curriculum, instructional strategies, and workforce trends.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage state and federal budgets and resources effectively.
- Proven ability to lead and collaborate with diverse teams and stakeholders.
- Knowledge of federal and state regulations related to STEM and CTE programs.
- Proficiency in data analysis and the use of technology to enhance educational outcomes.
- Strong knowledge of childhood & adult learning theory, including age-appropriate practices, curriculum, and assessments.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with teachers, administrators, parents, and community partners.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
- Familiarity with local and state policies and regulations related to CTE and Federal programs.
- Ability to analyze data, evaluate program effectiveness, and make data-informed decisions.
- Proficiency in using educational technology tools and software.
Physical Requirements: - Ability to work in an office setting, with occasional travel in and out of district schools and community partners.
- Ability to lift and move supplies and equipment as needed.
Work Environment: Primarily office-based with regular visits to schools and community locations. Some evening and weekend work may be required for events and meetings.
