FUNCTIONAL PURPOSE
The purpose of this position is to perform skilled work in the painting of buildings, trim work, fixtures, and equipment using brushes, rollers, or spraying equipment. Working conditions involve significant fumes and chemical mists, working at heights is a continuous work hazard. Assignments are completed in varying types of weather.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Prepares surfaces to be painted by use of sandpaper, scrapers, and by applying a primer coat; covers surfaces to protect from mist, drips, and stains.
• Applies paint with brush, roller, spray machine; matches paints; applies polyurethane, varnish, enamel, stain, or other protective materials to surfaces.
• Performs detailed trim work.
• Prepares and applies patching plaster as needed either as part of the crew or independently in advance of the crew.
• Operates sand blaster, texture machine, bucket truck and other equipment.
• Erects ladders, scaffolds, and lifts and uses them to paint surfaces at heights.
• Uses stencils and paint machine to paint numbers, markings, and lines on parking lots.
• Repair and finish drywall.
• Use chemicals and pressure washer to remove graffiti.
• Assist the Maintenance Division in snow removal as needed.
• Clear snow from driveways, parking lots, and sidewalks.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
• Working knowledge of the principles, techniques, tools, materials, and equipment used in painting.
• Working knowledge of the occupational hazards and related safety precautions of the work.
• Skill in the use and care of assigned tools and equipment.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to work safely and effectively on ladders, scaffolds, or other equipment at heights.
• Ability to operate vehicles safely.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, and school personnel.
• Follows OSHA and safety procedures, which may include, department protocols, appropriate attire, and observing weight limits as it relates to utilizing portable extension ladders and step ladders.
• Position requires the ability to work occasional scheduled overtime and be available for emergency overtime when the need arises by responding to after-hours emergencies, which may include weekends and holidays.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
• Minimum: High School Diploma/GED and two years of experience as a painter, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS:
• Valid NC Driver's License

Pay Grade Skill & Trade LB - Pay Rate $2,892.24 Monthly - Full-Time - 12 Months
